Yes, retail iPhones have the black box, refurb's from Apple have the white plain box.

it's a false return, basically the guy returned it (without the restocking fee) and his friend came in and bought it at a discount. It's common trick they do in the US.
It's perfect in every way. If I replaced the box nobody would have known. Actually, I WILL replace the box if someone doesn't mind. I like the white one better.

What's the difference between the US & UK iphones?
Amnesia, will this be "double" unlocked? |

if requested, I can hardware unlock it.
The difference between the UK and US is that the UK has firmware 1.1.1 and currently there is no unlock solution for that firmware.
From a hardware point of view, they are indentical.

if worst comes to worst, I can always sell a brand new one and keep the refurb (since I don't care)

actually I believe your slightly off with your identification of a refurb there, but in my experience apples refurb products are good as new and never once have I had one which appeard used.
I actually buying the refurbs as it means you can get a great saving on products and they will still have a year warrenty!

I think that now people will be scared of this thread so I'll end up keeping this and sell the brand new one.
A refurb is something that may have had a problem or been returned as it was used or considered used.
(Basically if I buy something from apple, open it up, switch it on once and return it, it's a refurb)
In this case it was a simple return and rebuy trick.
Anyway I'll make a brand new thread now. This one can be locked.
