I have an N73 and can help u out. Go to the main menu, then tools, then profile, then choose the profile you want the ring tone for (genreal usually), then go to personalize, the first option will be "ringin tone" go on that then choose the mp3 you want (it wil be mixed up with all the default tones). Thats to set it as your ringtone. To set it as your alarm, on main menu, go to applicaitons, then clock then options > settings then scroll down near the bottom to "clock alarm tone" then just choose your mp3!

@se p800

You really make me laugh as the answer you have just given here is exactly what you need to do to turn say callers name off which is a problem you asked for help for on N73 and i have just answered.

Marc

The ring tone list does not have the MP3 I wanna set as ringtone.I know how to set MP3's as ringtone ...But i want to set MP3 as MESSAGE TONE.
Same goes for the Alarm Tone. The Mp3 is not appearing on the list.

NO mp3s appear at all, or just a specific ringtone that you wanna use? Because in my N95, under clock settings, there is the option "clock alarm tone" and here are all audio format files on my phone to choose from... same goes for messages...
but maybe in N73 it's different...

Yeh ive copied them properly ...
Btw i dont think this really matters but the n73 IS mUsic Edition .This woudn't really matter ryt ?

And i even listen to music so it means theyve been copied correctly to the phone , but they aren't appearing in the list .

no, the music you've copied in Data>sounds will not show up in ring tones area. In order to show them up in ring tones area you need to have them in the "sounds" folder.
But still if you go to gallery, and select the file and click options, and then assign as ring tone. That ought to do it.

Hey QVGA thanks for the helpful reply.I connected my phone to the computer again and transfered 3-4 of my mp3's to the sounds folder manually and they are appearing on the list , and they are successfully being set as Message tone and Alarm tone.

One thing i still dont get is that when i set Mp3's from my gallery to My ringtone why don't they appear on the list ...
Does this mean that i have to transfer every single Mp3 to sounds folder so that it can appear in the list ?

AFAIK wherever the sound file is, you just press option, use as ringtone...

Ps not sure if you know but you can personalize your sms ring tone to a mp3 file and it reads out the persons name every few seconds.

Yes , i know. That when i go to my Gallery and press options , it has an option of setting the mp3 as a Ringtone.
The Mp3 is set as a ringtone
But when i go to Profile and go to the ringtonee list it does not appear there , and because of that , i can't set the mp3 as Alarm Tone or Message unless i save the file to Sounds folder , then it can appear on the list, then i can set the mp3 as alarm tone and message tone from the list.

I think you really need to sort things out with the file structure of your mobile. I admit, it's not as simple as Sony Ericsson's... if you want me to give you the link for the best Nokia forum out there - PM me
