I'd be happy to see SE make hardscreen UIQ phones. Basically retain the excellent UI of SE Java phones and have Symbian running in there for the sake of applications that can integrate with the shell better than J2ME. A K810 with a smartphone OS inside... It's my dream |

.... and why so many themes have a windows feel is just weird !!!!
Im agree with you. I dont like SE themes with Windows style, in every phones.
SE with WM? No. thanks. It'd better if SE improve its UIQ.

I use windows everyday for everything, from work to my personal stuff, so UIQ is my sanctity

I totaly agree with that! @ Chili, i remember wishing that the W900 would run a non-touchscreen Symbian UIQ, it would have been SO PERFECT and it would have justified that phones price, i would hate for SE to use WM, its bad enough that Samsung and Motorola are using it, like Masseur said LEAVE IT to the pros: HTC

Besides my personal preference for Symbian, I just can't imagine WM in either P990 or P1. Going from menu to menu would require a cup of coffee between each...
WM is just too processing power hungry to be of practical use in mobile devices.
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD |

I use and like both UI's but I find UIQ the most user friendly!

I like the windows mobile interface (with some exceptions), but tend to agree with masseur, it's best left to HTC.

I'd love to see the Linux penguin on an SE phone's boot-up someday, it's so consistent with the feel of SE Java phones - individualist for the sake of efficiency, elegant but not stiff, with a sense of humor but not gaudy. But it'll be Symbian i guess if ever non-touchscreen phones do happen! |

IMHO WM in hardscreen formfactor is a complete waste of effort - WM is most usefull as a touchscreen OS and many of the advantages of WM have to do with the "mouse like" input of the stylus - these features don't apply to hardscreen phones (smartphone or not). UIQ and s60 UI's are much better suited to hardscreen phones than WM. WM is really for PDA like phones - for those who prefer touchscreens on smartphones (like myself). Still, SE has a touchscreen UI that is perfectly fine, so no need to WM.
What I'd like to see from SE is a UIQ touchscreen in a slide formfactor with dpad or joystick and softkeys like non UIQ SE handsets, with keypad under slide. Best of bopth worlds then

UIQ is way as powerful as windows mobile TS, but due to the small group of developers in their side we can't discern the advantages whilst the decades old windows already formed a large scale of developers in both system and 3rd party aspects. the incompatibility of older symbian applications to the new system is the main problem with symbian phone systems. if it's like Palm, then it would be another story
anyway the UIQ 3 was the first OS platform to able have animations/transitions effect in it's menu/sub menus. S60 will have that capability in their FP2 revision. although FP1 allows the V-shape transitions in the manu but not in submenus.

That's the point. WM is superior than UIQ not becouse OS itself but becouse there are tons of applications. I can choose between 15 kinds of navigation software with my WM6 devices for example. Do I need to say more?
In the past there were faboulous devices with Palm OS made by Sony. If it's possible to pack WM into them... |
