@Dogmann, touch screen on S60 is a new experiment for Nokia. I wouldn't want to be a guinea pig like with the P990. But it is a move in the right direction. They will either get it right eventually or force SE to get their act together. Either way it is a win-win scenario for us.
With Nokia's continuous support policy, it would probably be less of a risk if their hardware and build quality are of an acceptable level.
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD

Yes I can access the terminal, its an app called ekonsole, I can telnet to it, I can run scripts and now a chap from thailand has compiled a basic SDK for it. The UI is old I agree but its amazing for a programmer. I can also backup restore my address book, emails messages from my SD card whcih is extremely important to me. The calender is so-so I agree. What I meant is not ti incorporate the EZX interface but keep it opensource based on Linux lol

New Experiment? Are you kidding me? You OBVIOUSLY are NOT aware of the 1.6yrs developement of S90 platform of teh Nokia 7700 & 7710! Also you're not aware of the only UIQ3 product just launched this year (roughly February). Nokia has PLENTY of experience with Touchscreen ... and considering how well the pulled off S60 3RD Edition I'll be MORE than HAPPY to be a guinea pig with their Touchscreen S60 device next year. BTW, the 7710 also had the ability for touchscreen dialpad, you should look it up.

Nokia 7700 (shipped to providers like Vodafone as a test platform)

- 25 MB shared internal memory for contacts, SMS, MMS, ringtones, images, video, PIM, and applications

7710

Standard, Li-Po 1300 mAh (BP-5L)

Hmm glad to see somebody has been doing some progress; but how EASY is it to implement to a non hacker/linux user?? Platform is still too immature for me. Motorola keeps changing iterations of the mobile Linux platform to gain my confidence or trust atm. EZX was LONG ago passed. MontaVista Software was the more recent devices since the Moto A768. There was some press release about a month ago that they've contracted with another company to implement a newer version of Linux thats already first seen in the Z6 Rokr; and an SDK. Not some hacker, that found it all on his own.

Great devices but still form factor leaves something to be missed. I'd like to see N81's tech in the N77 but N95's video accelerator.

Oh and for others like Makbil that wish to see how Nokia's style of Symbian OS touchscreen is like ....

http://www.planete-nokia.com/phpBB2/index.php?showtopic=15621&hl=

^ lots of good screenshots and size comparisons. See where teh Nokia N800/770 heritage comes from? lol - although they're using Linux.

* Nokia has NOT been sitting around picking their noses watching Ericsson/SE work with UIQ. They've too been playing watching & learning.

@makbil

Whilst i appreciate your hesitation to try anything new after what SE put you through with the P990 and the many reports coming out about the P1.

Very simply Nokia are not SE they have a totally different attitude towards releasing devices to their users and am sure actually do have proper Beta testers to make sure things do what they claim they will.

Now before anyone starts going off on one i am not claiming Nokia are perfect and don't occasionally have problems.

With the E90 their have been some minor problems and as soon as Nokia became aware they stopped releasing any more devices to the public until they could be resolved. Just compare that action to SE who knew about the P990 problems but where happy to continue to sell them to their users and get their money, and the same applies to the P1 which was released still with P990 problems plus the other things users are unhappy with and what have SE done nothing just continued to sell them to get their customers money and yet again put them in the promised land awaiting yet another fix all firmware to appear.

I would be quite happy to buy the Nokia touchscreen device on launch knowing that even if there where minor bugs the firmware releases would come quickly and not introduce more problems then they fix or take a couple of months at a time to arrive either. Not of course forgetting as it will be running S60 this is a now very mature and stable OS with a wealth of additional software already available both free or paid for the only difference will be how you control or enter Data on the device which i am sure Nokia will have got right before even thinking of releasing it.

All the above is of course just how i see the situation and MO.

Marc

n95 8Gb was quoted by Nokia to go for 560euro or 400 pound. This is the about same price quoted for the original n95.

Only if I can still use it one-handed (without exception) like current S60. TS should be a supplement to the current input method. It will be good to be able to use your finger to scroll/pan (like in iphone).
