Correct me if Iam very much wrong: I thought that flashing was refreshing your phone to its factory settings which is totaly different from from upgrading. But if that is the case then this thread speaks of two different things. North and South, if you know what I mean.

you only need to flash it for any of the following reasons:
a) to debrand it ebcause you hate the branding
b) if there are so many bugs on it that it makes using the phoen uncomfortable
c) to get a feature that is in a certain firmware.

Okay lets say I agree with two of what you said, those are your last two posible reasons. I have a problem with debranding. Can you say more on it.

Okay like this, if flashing means restoring to factory settings, how can you debrand because each brand label is installed by the manufacture. I thought that flashing removes all foreign data only. Correct me if I am mistaken again.

Never (leave well enough alone), unless:
1. there is a bug that really irritates you that can be fixed with an update
2. there is a substantial improvement in a new firmware version.

FLashing with a generic firmware will debrand your phone.....
