P1i vs N95 |

Hi.
Here is a summary of my experience with both P1i (some 3 weeks) and N95 (almost 2 months).
N95 advantages.
1. All included - it has all pieces of technology inside, including VoIP client, GPS, 5MP camera, etc.
2. Music player can be managed from separate set of keys on the phone as well as from remote control on the headphones.
3. As soon as BT headset is connected all sounds sent to it including music player.
N95 disadvantages.
1. Battery life is terrible - if you use it as "smart"-phone it lasts some 7-8 hours being fully charged. If you use it as "dumb"-phone you do not need it 
2. You cannot charge it from USB port of your laptop. You can buy a special cable from Nokia but, at least for me, it does not do the job. Computer can feed this phone when the phone is fully charged, otherwise, I think, the phone tries to use too much power and computer just turns off USB port.
3. The phone is quite thick (and heavy, of course).
P1i advantages.
1. The phone looks much more stylish not so think despite still rather heavy.
2. Full QWERTY keyboard.
3. Touchscreen where you can write if you do not want to use a keyboard.
4. T9 supports two languages simultaneously.
5. Reasonable battery life (at least one day).
6. Can be charged from PC's USB port.
P1i disadvantages.
1. No VoIP client out-of-box (Fring works, though).
2. Camera has no protection cover.
3. Music player does not send sound to BT headset (at least to my Jabra JX10). Probably, it requires some special profiles but...
4. It would be useful to have music player management buttons. At least Play/Pause as it is on K750.
Feel free to add your findings/comments. As for me, I would go with P1i. |

You forgot another disadvantage for the N95.
It is built like a cheap $1 toy out of a Christmas cracker. Sadly this put me off the whole thing. Build quality for me is one of the main features I look for in a handset, especially a slider. |

I intentionally tried to avoid things which could be too personal. Say, for me its build quality does not seem bad but I don't like Nokia's way of voice-management where you have to pronounce the name from Contacts as your telephone would without possibility to assign your own voice label. And some people find it very nice feature. |

I've given some serious thought to the N95 over the P1 as my next phone, but I decided that - coming from the M600 at least - I couldn't give up all the choices for data input that the SE phones offer. I've been using touchscreen phones for about four years now, with the M600's ts/Qwerty combination being the best of the lot, and the idea of losing that in favour of basic T9 and a joypad is just horrible.

Add to the N95 disadvantages, certainly put me off buying one in the end:
Poor build quality. Two people I know who have had these phones have managed 6 between them so far. A nice even 3 phones each to be precise.
Still expensive on contracts.

Strangely it's the one feature I miss on my P1i when compared with S60v3 devices. It actually seems to adapt to your voice over time. It was actually better in my car than the P1's voice tags. I would certainly call this a plus point.

no EDGE
no HSDPA
the camera isnt as good as K810 i realised
it has inherited some of the P990 bugs

I have owned both the N95 (Now Sold) and the P1 (Returned to Expansys for refund as it was Faulty)
The N95 Build Quality was poor the slider was rattling within 2 months, battery life a complete joke I had to carry two expensive batterys all the time! The camera was over hyped and the lack of a touch screen was for me, too big a hurdle to jump in the end.
The P1 was OK but the pouch was full of glue which imediatley transfered its self to the handset, then the thing would not attach 3G or GPRS on either T-Mobile or Vodafone.
On balance I liked the P1 better than the N95
I have owned the ... T68i T610, P800, P900, P910, P990, W950, P1, W960 But SE have now totally lost the plot. |

I upgraded recently from N80 to P1i and I'll never look back! I used te N80 pretty extensively and got to understand a lot about the Series 60 v3 platform, and compare to UIQ3 it really doesn't cut it. The general structure and easy of use of UIQ3 is outstanding, everything works so well, is laid out in really usability-orientated approach, and works so seamlessly.
At the end of the day I'll look at the task manager in my P1i and there about 15 programs running and I hadn't even noticed. The N80 can manager about 3 or 4 before things start going topsy-turvy. I'm sure the N95 has more memory but I doubt it performs anything like the P1i.
The touchscreen is a real joy to use, and while I think the QWERTY keyboard makes keyboard navigation a bit of a pain, the touchscreen makes up for it because it's so cool! TomTom is way better on P1i due to the touchscreen functions, and more software will surely be written that uses the touchscreen functionality.
I would recommend this phone to anyone who likes geeky toys and wants to get little bit more out of their phone, and appreciates techy stuff as this doesn't come pre-installed with "Home Media Centre" and VoIP like Nokias do. |

Tell me what are the usable and clear advantages of 9.3 S60 over the 9.1 UIQ 3?
let me remind you that even the dictaphone capability of S60 is only improved in the 9.2 FP1 while SE UIQ users already enjoys that for long ago since UIQ 2

Buy the price, the p1i is cheaper. And its price dropped pretty quick. it is because of its features and softwares. As a result, I think N95 is better. |

just to give a little bit information on N95;
my new n95 with load of 1 hour wifi; 1hour mp3 ~30 min calls; 1hour home server upnp over wifi and some gps (maybe 10 minutes) can easilly finish 1 full day and even some juice for the mdi second day. don't throw ideas like 8 hours usage. IF I use my N95 like my k800 for example (30 min calls; photos only ect) it can last 3 days... yawn...

the fact that it doesnt have touchscreen is enough for me NOT to buy it and prefer the p1i, my best friend has the n95, he is satisfied with it but when i compare the form, weight, battery, features i prefer my p1i.
and its not for the money because i have plenty  |

You're the first N95 user I've known that hasn't complained about the battery. Just about every other user say it's great if only the battery would last longer.

If you want state of the art up-to-date features go for the N95. If you want a "slimmer" P990 with an extra 64 RAM the P1i is for you. It's still using wifi b for crying out loud!
Everyone complains about the N95 battery, my P990 lasts less than a day, but I'm sure no1 really needs to mention that on here, lets just trash N95's. When SE makes a phone remotely comparable to the N95, then you guys can moan about battery life because you'll have something with similar function to compare to.
To the original poster, It's almost 2008, get the N95. You don't want 2006's specs with 64 more ram, do you? |
