Hi everyone,

Has someone manage to fix Gmail as a POP3 on their handset? I´m having huge problems with the SMTP. Can´t get It to work.

Solutions?

Go to your e-mail account settings, tick 'use smtp authentication' and 'use inbox login details.

Then tab the arrow next to your mailbox name at the top, tap 'advanced settings' and select the 'outgoing' tab.
For 'secure connection' select 'ssl' and change the 'outgoing mail port' to 465.

That's it. [addsig]

Just did it today and both are working for me on my P1i so here is what I did (deep breath);
Menu
Control Panel
Messaging
Email accounts
click MORE > New account
you will now see 3 tabs; Basic, Inbox, Outbox.

The BASIC tab should be filled as follows;

Account name:
My Gmail (or similar)

Your Names:
self explanatory

Email address:
name.name@gmail.com(or googlemail.com)

Connection type:
POP3

Do not tick push email

**now on to the next tab**

The INBOX tab should be filled as follows

Incoming server address:
pop.gmail.com

Username:
name.name@gmail.com(or googlemail.com)

Password:
your password

Download restrictions:
set as required

**now on to the next tab**

The OUTBOX tab should be filled as follows

Outgoin server address:
Smtp.gmail.com

Tick "Use SMTP authentication"
Tick "Use Inbox login details"

click MORE > Advanced

2 new tabs Incoming, Outgoing

Incoming

Secure connection:
SSL

Incoming mail port:
995

Do NOT tick "Secure password authentication"

**now on to the next tab**

Outgoing

Secure connection:
SSL

Outgoing mail port:
465

Tick "Use MIME encoding"

now click SAVE !

Hopefully that should work for you just as it has for me.

This is my first posting of proceedure so if I missed anything out or it isn't easy to follow, sorry.

Well what do you know? I don't get that error anymore. All I did was change my port from 587 to 465.

Thanks to you very helpful people out here.

does the mobile.gmail.com mobile app work on the P1? It worked on the P910, I think it's a Java app. I used to use the built in POP email, but I found Gmail's Mobile App so much better. I'm hoping it still works on the P1

Yes it does but it seems not really built for the p1i. I said this because the screen taps seem to be ignored by the application.
