500, do a quick check for me mate on the hiss sound...

Wait for the screen to turn off completly (so it goes into sleep mode/screen saver screen). Then, put the phone to your ear and check if you can hear the hiss.

If you CAN NOT hear the hiss, turn the screen back on (by pressing a button or taking it off Kep-pad Lock.

If you then hear the hiss again, it's your screen that is making the noise. In which case you'll need a new screen.

A very very common problem with the N95!

Update won't work guys.

If it is what I think it is, then the only thing that'll work is change of screen. The noise comes direct from the screen as soon as it comes on. It doesn't happen only when making or receiving calls.

Its not so much a hiss, but a high pitch whistle type sound.

And it's not very loud. but cuz it's so high pitched any longer than a couple of minutes on a call and it'll do your head in.

Some people who have bad hearing can't hear the high pitch, but some can.

The FW update on my last N95 didn't fix it for me.

Thankfully my new handset is 100% OK
