M2 Memory Card question? |

I have a 4GB SD Card in my w810i at present but it is causing me a lifetime of problems, long story short, i got it for 40 on eBay so chances are its a fake one and will never work. I've formatted it and error checked, everything is fine until i try to copy files to it, sometimes the phone wont even recognise them, but it did with my 2gb.
So anyways I found M2 4GB card on Amazon and Play.com for €50 shipped so I was wondering has anyone had any success stories with using 4gb memory cards with the w810i and if i got one do you think it would work or will i face the same issues?
Definitely won't be using eBay again anyways...
Thanks,
Noel |

Hi,
First of all, your W810i does not work with an SD card - only Memory Stick Duo.
You can certainly use an M2 if you use the MS Duo adaptor and it should work fine.
BTW: Buying any memory card on Ebay is a huge risk, as the counterfiet market is booming at Ebay.

I agree and would steer clear of getting memory cards from Ebay.
A lot of the sellers sting you on postage and if you find the card to be a fake it's hard to get your money back afterwards.
Picstop are very reliable and don't overcharge.

thanks for the replies so far guys, to the first person who replied, i am using a pro duo sd card sorry i shoulda mentioned that in the first part.
Are you confident that a m2 will work, i mean i would buy another 4gb sd pro duo card off a place like amazon but im just afraid something like that may happen again with a sd pro duo... |

I've tried it in my W850 and the phone detects the card using the supplied pro duo adapter.
Though I didn't fill up the card with 4gb worth of data, it does work using an M2 stick with a PRO DUO adapter. |

First of all, there are some naming conventions that need to be sorted out. The term "SD" normally stands for Secure Digital, and is a standard for memory cards that is used by almost all mobile phone vendors, except SonyEricsson, that use the Memory Stick format in various variants instead. There is indeed a SD Micro card, that is almost the same size ad a M2, but it will not fit in a SonyEricsson phone. The term "4gb sd pro duo card " that you use is simply non-existent.
Both Sandisk and Sony ship their M2 cards with a Memort Stick Duo adapter, so that combination will certainly fit physically into your phone, but an open question is whether your phone is capable of addressing that address space that a 4GB card requires. The problems with copying files onto it may be caused by this. However, the whitepaper for the W810i which can be found on developer.sonyericsson.com states, that "Memory Stick PRO Duo™ supports up to 4 GB memory capacity.", so your memory card may be a fake. |

OOOOOOOOK, thanks for your reply, apologies if my terminology was unclear but yes indeed i do think it to be fake so im going to go with getting an m2 one anyways because when i upgrade the phone in the future chances are it will have an m2 slot in it so it will be handy then. |

I purchased my M2 Card from a company called Moby memory.
The 4gb m2 card is superb in my K810.
its alot faster than the original m2 card (2gb) i purchased on the net.
The card now saves photos in 3-5 seconds instead of the 15-20 seconds before. Scrolling with the music etc is so much faster too.
The card cost me £34.79 Although i pucrashed another card and a usb flashdisk so my order went just over £40 to get free delivery. However delivery charges are good at £2.99 any way if under £40 so again you cnt complain.
And I can say i have filled 3.5gb of the card with not one error at all. so to me its 100% perfect. I would also order from moby memory again, great service too. |

Thanks Darren for the tip, just got my 4 Gig's card from Moby Memory and it works like a charm.
Had an order running for it in France but this company (as often over here) was pushing the delivery (2 days was announced when I ordered but they didn't expect any before the beginning of September). I ordered in the UK on Friday and got the parcel this morning.
And it's also 25 Euro cheaper than in France )
The phone hung once but this might have been a bad manipulation of me.
Funny thing is, I stored ~ 1300 titles on it but the K800 music player can only show 8 digits so the song number shows like 0129/126 (it should be 0129/1263 or something)...
Thanks again

i was just wondering but....
surely an MSPD is cheaper than an M2,
with the M2 being newer out and all that??
so would it really be worth buying an M2 and using the converter when a MSPD would be cheaper???

If you plan on using newer SE phones, you don't have a choice but get an M2 stick as newer SE phones from now on only take M2 sticks, not MSDP. |

Perfectly right, all new phones use the M2. If you have an older phone, most of the M2 cards have an adapter packed with it so you can use it in Duo Pro phones.
I use my M2 in both the K800 (M2) and the K750 (MSDP) |

If you plan on buying it for the W810, then yes it will be "cheaper" to get a MSDP.
But if you plan on getting a newer SE phone that uses M2 sticks, then you'll be forced to buy an M2 stick anyways.
So in short term, yes it'll be cheaper, in the long run you'll be spending more. |
