W580i Walkman Shake not functioning. |

Bought a brand new GSM unbranded w580i from CPW yesterday and noticed last night that the Walkman shake feature is not working. There is no setting to turn it on and off and the manual just states that you shake the phone to shuffle to the next track....no mention of turning it on as such.
The accelerator must be working as all the fitness functions work...having said that the step counter does not seem that accurate.
I returned the phone today and the guy in CPW tried 3 different handsets and the shake did not work on any of these. I also went to another CPW and they checked one of their stock and this didn't have a working shake function either.
I have kept the phone but unsure what to do really. I tried a master reset but that didn't work and as it is effecting all the handsets I've tried it suggests to me that SE have left this out of the firmware for whatever reason.
So, am I missing something here? I'm sure there isn't a setting option to turn it on, it mentions the walkman shake in the book and I have seen a phone working with it on YouTube. Anyway else having this problem?? |

How embarrasing!!
Cheers mate you are a star!!
I cannot believe that I missed that. I was in 2 different CPW's today and nobody could suss it out. The manual doesn't actually explain it very well.
I was thinking that it couldn't just always work as it could easily be activated in error. Holding the button makes perfect sense.
I love Esato, so useful for when I'm being a dull idiot.
Thanks again. |

What is the point holding the Walkman button and then shake. So we would have to do the two things to do a single task. |

It makes sense in order to avoid accidental activation.
Imagine this scenario:
You choose and play your fave music. Then stick the phone in your pocket. Then start walking or running. The ohone detects the shaking and switches track. |

Just goes to show that phone shop staff are not trained properly in the products they sell. Are just interested in commission and nothing else.
At least you know your phone is not faulty.
Was wondering about how the "shake" function would work myself.
Incidentally, what is the sound quality like?

It wouls have been quicket to have ashuffle button, it would be less fun but would make more sense.
1 button press VS. 1 button press and a frenetical shake
Not that I'm lazy but you know...things could be simpler. |

Sense or no sense, the fact remains that the shake function probably attracts more people because its more fun and makes the phone stand out compared to competitors. Beside, yet another button would have occupied even more space on an already small device (may or may not be a problem depending on where it is squeezed in). |

Design is not an easy thing, especially when you pair it with functionality, tactility and so forth. So if you want the 'shuffle' button to appear, why not throw in other more crucial features in like equalizer, continous play etc, they're such a hassle to set. Then you'd have a phone full of buttons, that would be very stylish and trendy wouldn't it? |

well, i just signed in this forum to reply this thread, and to thank you guys because i was having the same problem, and i was about to go where i bought it here in Mexico and ask about that matter, you saved me from that trip.
Anyways i have to agree with some of you, about that the manual, that does not manifest how to control the shake function, it only says that you have to shake it and ill work.
Cheers
