Apple on Tuesday evening addressed concerns about potentially dangerous security holes in the mobile version of its Safari web browser with the first ever software update to its new iPhone handset.
Targeting vulnerabilities that could be exploited through malicious websites, version 1.0.1 (build 1C25) of the handset's software updates Safari's JavaScript handling to prevent cross-site scripting and a buffer overflow in the Perl code library.
Also addressed by software patch were three separate issues within the company's WebCore and WebKit platforms that form the backbone of Safari. Two of the fixes guard against false XML requests and frame rendering glitches that could be used to control the phone or crash the browser through memory errors.
Like recent iPod updates, the iPhone fix is downloadable solely through iTunes and can be installed the next time the phone is docked or detected by the jukebox software.
Other reported improvements
- Option to BCC yourself
- Mail is much faster
- Messages load instantly
- Yahoo push mail is quicker
- Email handles Exchange IMAP better
- No longer crashes when running iPod, Google Maps, Safari & Mail together
- More time choices for when the phone's Passcode Lock gets invoked
- It is now able to find IMAP subfolders on its own, without needing to specify an IMAP Path Prefix in Settings.
- The PPTP VPN now works with encryption enabled (it didn't before)

Does it put back voice dialing? MMS? Custom ringtones?
Does it un-cripple the Bluetooth?
No?
Then I'm still not buying one.

Nice to see they've cleared up these issues rather quickly. For a first update you shouldn't expect too much, all in good time people.

Until AT&T and Apple get over themselves and put in the basics that even my  T616 could do, I'm not at all interested.
What can I say, I'm an Apple user, not a blind fanboi. The iPhone IMO is too intentionally crippled to justify even half of its price.
Hopefully iPhone 2.0 has full  (including OBEX, PIM sync, A2DP, AVRCP), voice dialing, MMS, 3rd party apps, and custom ringtones... not to mention multiband 3.5G. I could live with the lack of expandable memory (8GB is plenty), non-replaceable battery (never a problem on my iPods), and even enslavement by AT&T (since T-Mobile's coverage is spotty in my area).

I think il be ordering myself a iphone in the next few weeks, it looks as if the hackers (god bless them) are coming close to removing the sim lock
which I think we all like

I think I am one of the few who can talk with the experience of actually owning an iPhone, and yeah, it's not as all singing and dancing as say a Nokia N95 (or many other handsets for that matter), but boy oh boy, it kicks their collective ass in certain areas, primarily web browsing, music, and video.
The implementation of these areas is nothing short of outstanding, and the user interface is an absolute joy to behold, it works, its extremely stable, and f*** me the battery life is MASSIVE, it makes my N95, or Blackberrys look pathetic.
