I recentley purchased one of these of eBay for £0.01p and £1.70p Postage basically to use with my NOKIA 6100,

although it says I can use it with it in "Black & White" im having issues using it when I plug it into the phone nothing happens but when I attach the headset it's reconized on the phone, the light on the camera flashes but I canont take pictures, I cannot find any option on the handset which states camera

a error message came up once saying the attachement is not compatible but it's not done it again any ideas guys?

Ah, the old headset cameras, I remember them at launch lol

You open the camera once its connected to the phone, take the photo and it sends it as a picture file to the phone, the phone is not used as a viewfinder.

The picture should then be in your images folder or equivilent.

It wont do, the camera was developed after the phones and their software were. So in order for it to work, the camera takes the picture, dumps it in it's own memory, and then sends it (i think) as a file to the phone for it to receieve.

Does it make a noise when it takes the pictures?

only thing im getting is a green light flashing for a few secs then it's off when I press the take picture button nothings happening so I dunno if it's taking the pictures or not !

I did wonder if the phone was not upto SW with the camera cos it did say it was not reconized !

i'll get it out later and have a play again shame it hasn't got a flash on it I thought it might of had that atleast !

We're talking about Nokia's first attempt at the camera phone market, so we're going quite a bit back before flashes lol

I wouldn't say it's incompatible, it's just they designed it to not need to use to the phones software for maximum compatibility with older models. Even the newer ones didn't have any way of changing the camera settings, it just 'works'. Theres no sound either as it has no speaker, just the light.

Thats the newer one that was capable of saving pictures to it's own memory and then uploading them to the phone later on. It had a flash and a pop port connector under a flap at the side I believe, quite rare in the UK.

The one we're talking about is this one:
