Is it me or is mororola seriously lagging producing good phones?

I mean yea currently SE are behind them, but I woulnt be surprised by if next year SE are well above them.

Major phone comapines are selling 5mp HSDPA armed models and poor old Moto havnt got this far. Hell im not even sure if they have a 3mp phone on the market? Do they!?

Even if they do, they really have to think about putting in some serious high ends.

Any one agree?

Motorola ah well the last phone i had of theirs was the V3maxx which has a good screen and features but i hate the texting with Motorola. But a few of their up and coming phones look promising but i think the reason why they may ahead of SE is perhaps people just love having stylish phones with nice features. SE phones can hardly be described as stylish or reliable. I never had a problem with any Motorola phone i had in the past. Those could be reasons. Yes they are yet to produce a stunning camera but i think they will suprise us all in the near future.

Have you not seen the just released Q9 a really good looking qaulity built device with more than reasonable specs to boot. same goes for the Z8 the first UIQ3 non touchscreen smart phone whilst not my taste it will apaeal to many and is Multimedia foccused. Also i just saw today a review of the V9 which looks very interesting indeed a very impressive spec including a 500mhz processor and touch sensitive with tactile feedback Media Controls on the front screen check it out it is a thinner than the original RAZR @11.9mm made of a stainless steel frame and hardened glass. It will definitely change your opinion of Motorola this is in a different class to the original RAZR. Of course it has HSDPA, A2DP and between 512MB- 2GB of inbuilt memory and it is stunning.

How many more times do I have to say that Moto aren't on this planet to make the highest end phones in the world.

Moto always have been and always will be after the design rather than function, as evident in the razr, pebl, slvr, V50, Z8, V70, V80.....

as to be honest I'm right with them, form over function any day of the week... (got to have the right function though)

The K1 is a hugely under rated phone.... as was the PEBL, no other manufacturer has made magnetic, self opening phone, and to be honest they won't moto have enough patents on that to sink a battle ship!!

but Moto are DESIGN not function and have a phone with a 1000000000mp cam with 800560165400 terabytes of memory.....

Moto's are very good at being just a phone, with usually very good reception.
And of course : their looks ! Our black RAZR, an "old" phone meanwhile, is still one of our best looking phones, with an absolutely stunning keypad .

I do admire that they make quality phones. The build quality is pretty darn good, and of course, their designs.

But they're really slow at innovating. The RAZR design, ROKR music phones, and it took them far too long to improve their UI - absolutely pathetic.

And in the last year, they've been very slow at releasing new phones. Not so much the past few months, but the period before that was devoid of anything interesting.

Their EZX touch screen linux phones are a hackers dream, you can overclock, set up compilers run 3 simultaneous OS, Windows 3.1, Linux and the native EZX platform.

I have never used/considered Motorola phone though they have fairly good looking phones.

I had read a review of Moto's recent phones which was criticizing Motorola sticking to few designs though quite new features are added in these models. Also the marketing muscle lacks.

Reading news of so many lay off Motorola seems in really big trouble. If you don't listen to the consumers then you will fail.

As a SE fan I hope SE will learn a good lesson not only from P990i fiasco but also from troubles faced by its competitors.

Lagging? Have you seen the new V9 RAZR? Their new interface looks amazing. On top of that the Z8 is a phenomenal device in its own right. I've always admired Motorolla for making innovative phones, and they have learnt from their mistakes aswell, something SE and others need to do.

Heres a press release I recieved yesterday.

San Francisco - Motorola chief executive Ed Zander's job may be in danger after cellphone sales disappointed investors for the third time this year.

The stock dropped as much as 4 percent yesterday from the US close on Wednesday.

Zander said the world's second-biggest maker of mobile phones had a loss last quarter.

Second-quarter sales fell to between $8.6 billion (R60 billion) and $8.7 billion. He predicted $9.4 billion on April 18.

"In this game, if you fall behind, it's hard to come back," commented Matthew Kelmon, a fund manager at Kelmoore Investment, which owns more than 110 000 Motorola shares. "They need a fresh start."

Zander has failed to repeat the success of Motorola's best-selling Razr phone, released in 2004. That has made it difficult to compete with devices from Nokia, Samsung and newcomer Apple.

The Razr2, scheduled to go on sale this month, probably would not earn the same profit margins as other advanced phones, said Lawrence Harris, an analyst at Oppenheimer & Company.

Harris, ranked among the most accurate telecommunications equipment analysts by StarMine, estimated that the Razr2 would sell for about a third the price of the most expensive Apple iPhone.

"A lot of investors feel Ed Zander may want to consider getting out of Motorola and bringing in new blood," said Pablo Perez-Fernandez, an analyst with Global Crown Capita.

"He's done a poor job getting the company through successors to the Razr and hasn't articulated a strategy for how the company can regain its lustre, other than cutting costs."

Before yesterday, the stock had lost 13 percent this year.

"People were expecting a bad quarter and got worse than they were even looking for," said Mark McKechnie, an analyst at American Technology Research who worked at Motorola in the late 1980s. He has a neutral rating on the stock and does not own any.

The results fit a pattern for Motorola, so the fault might not be Zander's, he said. "They like to put up a hot product every five years or so, then go back to the drawing board. To paint it all on the [chief executive] is probably a little excessive."

Motorola invented the cellphone and once dominated the business. It fell to a distant second behind Nokia while led by Chris Galvin, the grandson of Motorola's founder.

Zander replaced Galvin in January 2004 and oversaw a rebound in sales and earnings, spurred by the Razr.

Motorola reported its first loss in almost three years in the first quarter after Nokia and Samsung won market share with new devices.

Motorola's share slid to 18 percent, while Nokia's widened to 36.2 percent, according to research firm Strategy Analytics. - Bloomberg

@Alexandra

Why do you say that? whilst i will admit i am no fan of it's black plastic construction and looks by all accounts it is a good Multimedia device sound and vision being it's strong points.

Having just seen a small review of the Motorola RAZR 2 V9 i must say i am very impressed at both the materials used in it's construction and the fact it has a 500mhz processor and a 2 inch screen. It looks like a premium product and should perform as one also, on the Multimedia side it has touch sensitive with tactile feedback Multimedia keys on the outside screen and is obviously focused on it's multimedia abilities i am pretty sure this is going to be a successful product for Motorola as it is a couple of mm's thinner than the original with a higher quality finish whilst packing plenty of power including HSDPA. IMO defiantly one to watch for.
