O2 beats rivals in battle for the rights to Apple’s iPhone in UK?? |

From Times Online
O2 has beaten its rivals to win the exclusive UK rights to offer Apple’s iPhone. The tie-up, the mobile phone industry’s most sought-after deal in years, marks a major coup for the 18 million-customer group. The final contract is expected to be signed imminently.
The phone, which should be on sale in time for Christmas, is expected to prove a key weapon in enabling O2 to win and retain customers in one of Europe’s fiercest mobile markets.
It is understood that negotiations are continuing with mobile phone retailers including Carphone Warehouse over an agreement to sell the iPhone in their stores after a period of exclusivity with O2.
Shares of O2 ’s owner, Telefónica, of Spain, are expected to surge today on the back of the news.

Nah, I'd be put off somewhat IF the iPhone was to have all that horrid Vodafone (or Orange,T-Mobile, etc ) internal and external branding.
That woulda been heresy, I tell ye!

This is gonna be one of the worst decisions in the Mobile Industry EVER!
O2 are not reknowned for their smooth running 3G network and definitely not for their love of high data consumers.
I can only surmise that O2 are hoping iPhone customers will take to browsing the internet so much it will make dataplans the biggest money earner for them.
Their data plans are pure rip-off! Big thumbs down from me.

Hopefully if O2 get it they will change their data plans. You never know it may not be locked either!

All I can say is, I'm happy
Well, only because it means we'll finally get more easy sales, not so good on the fact we'll providing another shit phone, but hey ho, life goes on...
My opinions on this forum are that of my own and not of the company I work for. |

WOW this was a surprise for me too, being an O2 employee, i never saw this coming lol,
I thought it would have been vodafone, dam O2 sneaks didn't even it slip to der own employees, plus O2 have also launched new 24 month contracts so it all adds up now, well i am happy anyway since i get 75mb data as part of me £20 staff tariff anyway, but i hope they bring out some data tariffs better ones than what is avaulable now,, for everyone else.
I do hope the european iphone version will support mms, it will no doubt support 3g,since O2 does not have edge, it only has 3g, but am prayin they suppoert mms and they also adjusted the ringtones so we can use our songs as ringtones.
