The race is now well and truly on to get the iphone unlocked to use on all networks, hope they do (which they will at some point) so us iphoneless european users can finally import them from the states!

Some sites already claim to be able to unlock it now?

I wonder if this is still "viable"? Locking is usually to prevent another sim (service provider) from being used in the phone. However, with iPhone, you also need to "activate" it as well.

So, say you got your unlocked iPhone, pop in your non AT&T SIM in it, great, but you need to activate it, so you still have an iBrick, an unlocked iBrick mind.

Course I could be completely wrong, it depends on what part of "activation" is tied in with the SIM and the locks.

Cheers,

If it's truely unlocked and usable on T-Moible or whatnot then $740 US is not unreasonable. That is if you accept the current locked-phone price as "reasonable". I don't, and I'm quite the Maclot. But first-generation Apple products give me the willies. Been there, done that, and it hurts.
