Hi there,

Just got a W200i, nice phone and everything, however file transfer through the provided USB cable is incredibly slow - around 56Kbytes/s. You can image how long it takes to transfer music to it now that I got a 2 gig MS...

I have tried this on two different computers running different operating systems (one with Windows XP, the other with Kubuntu Linux). Same results - only difference is that Kubuntu tells me the actual transfer rate (from 40-64KBytes/s).

Is anyone experiencing anything similar? My first reaction was to update the firmware, but Sony's software says my phone is up to date...

i think this is normal with the usb cable. if you have a card-reader the transfers would be faster

for sure, BUT 40-60 kb/sec surely isn't normal? Even on a w200i - or is it [addsig]

well,
i tried it too, and the resukllt are same, i transfer about 14Mb files and it take about 1-2 minutes, but it think it still normal for W200i.

maybe W200i doesnt support USB transfer speed coz its class is new entry phone, not middle or high end.

btw, you said you use 2 GB MS? i thought its max. upgradeable is 1 GB?

i hope its enlight you

Hi guys, thanks for your answers. I did have to use the MS reader on my laptop to transfer files, and transfer speed was just fine - over 1.5GB in less than 20 minutes, so I don't think the fault is on the card itself but on the phone... c'mon, 60K/s is just ridiculous, I've just been given a 256MB pendrive that can do USB2 speeds and they are worth around £5 or less...

Quite sure it's the phone, since I tried the thing on two different OSes with obviously different usb mass storage driver sets... oh well!!

I don't know, I saw the specs somewhere and said max 2GB, anyway 2GB is the max you can get at the moment for M2...

I got it off an amazon dealer:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sandi[....]ctronics&qid=1182785792&sr=8-1

So cheap it made me wonder if it was dodgy... but speeds are the same with the bundled Sandisk 128MB...
