SMS 'history' |

SMS messaging retains a history of recently used numbers/contacts to whom I have sent SMS messages.
Is there any way of clearing that history without doing a phone reset?
Thanks. |

I would like the opposite.
Since the last FW upgrade the phone it's not showing that list |

On w810, you can delete them one by one. What is your phone model? |

This can be annoying, & a problem if others borrow the phone to send a text, particularly if u need to be discreet about who you text, a "half fix" it simply involves sending about 4 texts to wierd numbers like Y423K ETC (these wont cost you, but u should start it with a letter then a number because some premium text numbers are 4 numbers like 8334)
change the number for each text & you should see the "real" numbers in your history replaced with these meaningless ones.
SE could have simply made this box clear itself when u use the "Delete private data" option in Web menu, but someone didnt think it through. |

It's an M600i, and damned infuriating.
I've got a history of 10 entries, some repeated.
Yes, discretion is one reason for clearing the list. I used to be able to do it on my not so smart T610, Z600 and V800 but not on the 'smart' M600i.
Does ayone know where the entries are stored? - perhaps I could write an app that serves the purpose. |

Sorry to keep on but does no-one know where the entries are written to. They must be accessible somehow, and if so it should be possible to write an application to provide a history clearance routine.
After all, if I can access the registry in XP, with due authority, why not my M600i?
Or am I just being too simplistic? |

Yes you can erase the sent SMS on a M600. Go to the Sent folder, and select the checkbox on the left of the messages. You don't even need to select them one by one, you can quickly slide vertically trough the checkboxes and they will be selected.
You can also use "select all" if you want. And then, using the options button on the bottom right, select erase.
I have had my M600 replaced by a Blackberry, and can't recall the exact name of the button, but definitively you can erase the sms.

Thanks for that, but I appreciate you can erase the sms messages.
However, you will see from my original post that it is the history of recently used numbers/contacts that I wish to erase. Those are retained even if the message is deleted. |

Yes, There is a workaround for this.
Instead of composing a SMS from the messaging menu. Do the following.
1. Dial the number of the person that you want to sms
2. Hangup before the call connects
3. Go to call history
3. Select the Number that you just dialed
4. From options "more" select "Message"
5. Compose the sms and send
This will ensure that this number is not added to SMS history.
I have a W950.. This should work on M600 as well as they have the same OS.

@VSS
This is not possible on SE's UIQ3 phones, at least not via OS.
But now that the protected folders are hacked, it should not be that hard to find the file which keeps the history of the phone no.s used and to delete the entries there.
