What are your opinions about the comments given in the News Section?lately i've seen a lot of flaming and negative remarks.
I think the problem is because anyone can make a comment and change there username usually anyone can get away with saying pretty much anything. www.esato.com/news

I always wondered about that... took me ages to realise I can call myself goldenface when commenting on news!

We already remove alot of bad stuff and also look for various other mis-posting, attacks and bad language etc but as in the forums we welcome PMs pointing to stuff that needs to be sorted

Yeh i think we have to find a way of changing this, as i've had to ask laffen a couple of times to remove certain remarks...or maybe we can get someone to moderate the news section aswell?
Just someone today calling himself Miles Flint made a comment.

we also get some spam and some propaganda too, all of which gets removed.
we could make people register to post there but then they may as well just post against your news threads in the forums if they have to register.
I think the idea of that news comments is just for free text but as in most public arenas, some people just cannot control themselves or act respectfully

surely it can be rigged so only forum users can post comments?
then when any flame wars start the big shiny ban button gets used....

I'm for it too, cos unfortunately the honour system doesn't seem to work all the time.

If posting in the News comments section is intended to be informal, then why not just remove the ability to attribute a name to the comment. If a visitor wants a username they can register and post in the forums.
It seems that the news section is already moderated sufficiently. As usual, members can help with this if they spot inappropriate comments.
