Since esato is realistically run by only one mod, i don't expect him to search every thread for potential cursing/flaming/illegal stuff etc. What we need is a report abuse button where the mod will automatically get the link to that thread and will take appropriate action. |

Nice idea, but i think that would only increase the workload for masseur, as some members will mis use the panic button.

I guess it wouldnt be any more work as we already get quite a few PMs reporting issues.
But as this would just provide a quicker method members might be more keen to alert us to more problems if it just takes a single click rather than creating a PM
...as long as the number of clicks per member per thread can be restricted
edit: btw, my first choice is for members to simply behave in a nice friendly manner!

there are a lot of potential candidates for mods here at esato as most mods are inactive.
like massure said, many people simply don't inform him because they don't want to go through the pain of writing a PM. It can also be restricted to older members so that newbies dont abuse the system. |

Wouldn't that be a bit difficult - altering the structure of the forum? I've seen the feature on other forums and I always thought it was built in.
If the abusive stuff is quite obvious then simply posting the link in a pm is easy enough for me.

I dont think its neccisary, but its a great idea. The mods are very quick in reporting and locking nuscience. great job! |

How about building an eject button,to throw any undesirables out of the thread?

Hi!
It can also be restricted to older members so that newbies dont abuse the system.
Yes, then there becomes the problem of defining older members. Some 'not so old' members might be the ones giving the best input at Esato.

It is, but that doesn't mean to say it can't be retrospectively built in to this forum.
Speaking as someone who worked on their own homebrew site based on this same forum software (phpbb1.2) for years, I find it odd that so much effort has been put into Esato's cosmetic changes (ie layout) and so little into functional improvements. There can't be too many other forums of this size left on the web which don't have a preview function, for example, or which have such messed up page numbering on long threads... I don't know how easy it is to mod at the moment, but I'm guessing "not very", if there have been as few changes there as in the rest of it. The software behind this forum must be a good six or seven years old now, and it's really starting to show!
Sorry for meandering off-topic, but that's been building up for a while..

Most 'report abuse' buttons on PHPBB based forums either simply direct you to the standard Private Message page with the appropriate moderator's name already entered into the 'To' field, or they trigger the standard Private Message PHP script to a certain moderator with all of the fields sent invisibly as hidden fields.
It wouldn't be all that difficult to implement, just rather pointless if you ask me. More sensible and considerate posting and less board Nazism is the answer!

made this suggestion quite a while ago, but i believe the mods/admin's don't feel the need to.
or a small fora section where topics could be made about abuse, but topics are hidden to other users but the topicstarter and esato mods/admins

Well maybe it's worth trying to work it out using statistics (say certain number of abuse warnings triggers reaction)? Just a thought |
