Hi,
I recently bought a W200i phone that has an e-mail client. Since this feature is important for me, I tested it and immediately discovered that the phone doesn't support the Baltic character set (windows-1257). When an e-mail with such charset arrives, the phone displays "unsupported character set" instead of message body. This is most disappointing for me, specially because all the characters from this charset are actually available in the phone and can be used in SMS and other messages.
I think it is stupid that a phone sold in Baltic countries, does not support the charset that is most popular around here. But more stupid thing is, you cannot "override" this charset with a supported one to be able to see the message even without some baltic characters. AND, THE EVEN MORE STUPID THING IS, the problem with this charset have been with SE phones since dark ages. T28, T39, T230, T68i, T610i - all of them suffered from the same weakness. When I purchased T68i (or was it T610i), I personally e-mailed Sony Ericcson about this problem - and got no answer. Frustrating. And now I am a proud owner of one more phone with the same flaw.
Now the question - is there a way to overcome this problem? I really need to be able to read all e-mails in my inbox, and I cannot ask all my e-mail partners to switch to unicode because my f** phone won't support Baltic charset. Are there any alternatives to the built-in e-mail client of the phone? Please help.
BR,
Wapper
