Yes!! By the looks of the phones that have just been announced it should be something to really look forward to!! Fingers crossed! I just wish that people with advanced knowledge would leak it a little more like they have done with the others so far!!

I'd buy the P1 anyday over the W960, just for the keyboard. I still can't put my M600 down after all these months

Guys, Ive posted this post elsewhere on here but aint got an answer. So as it's apt to this thread Im gonna try getting an answer here...
Folks, I'm a touch confused here...
If the W960i has pretty much the same spec as the P1i - only the lack of qwerty keypad BUT with Walkman function would this not make the W960i SE's flagship model and not the P1i?
I'm not too IT literate - all this UIQ's and 3.0's/3.1's stuff confuses the hell out of me. I've tried. Really I have to try to understand what it all means - but just haven't been successfull. So if the P1i is the flagship model soley on the basis of all this stuff, then sorry for being ignorant to some of the posts made in this thread. I did read 'em - just didn't/couldn't understand 'em
PS Which out of P1i and W960 is going to be the more expensive. Logic says the P1i as it's supposed to be the flagship model. But from what Ive read so far the W960 will be more expensive?!?!?!? |

Merlyn101 is talking about the phone of which is going to be a direct replacement of the P990i, not the M600i/P990i lovechild the P1i nor the W960i the W950i's replacement.
same as if i was to ask which phone will replace the Kxxx and somebody replied the Jxxx, I wouldn't deem that as an answer to my question!

Scouser, although the P1i and W960i are very similar internally, they're aimed at two different markets - as such I don't think either of them is an obvious flagship, I think they both are.
The P1i is SE's flagship business phone - the keyboard (borrowed from the M600) is truly brilliant, and a must-have for push email etc.
The W960i is obviously aimed more at consumers - it's the ultimate music phone by virtue of its storage alone, with the UIQ advantages largely taking second place. It's a flagship in its own right, but one for a different side of SE and UIQ.

Nanu, the fact is that the "direct replacement" for the P990 is the P1. It's quite literally replacing it on the market, in the coming quarter. It will take the place of the P990 on the SE shelf.
What you're actually talking about is the "spiritual successor" to the P990, the phone which will assume the technological lead over SE's smartphones at some later date (possibly the first quarter of next year). That phone will not directly replace the P990, because there won't be any P990's left to replace; it will simply compliment the P1, W960, and whatever other UIQ phones may be announced in the meantime.

It is not I who posed the question, I am not interested in the P1i spiritually or otherwise, for me as a P990i user the P1i is not the replacement for the P990i.
If people could stick to the original question at hand instead of posting about the W960i and P1i this thread would be a better place.
And Merlyn101 might get an answer to the question at hand.
We are all aware of the P1i's existance and the placement in the line up of se's phones, that is not what is in question here.

P1 is going to be less expensive than W960 i think, basing them to the features. W960 is ahead a bit of the P1. though personally i like this approach in which i'll gonna have two great SE options to choose to succeed my M600
imho get the P1. |

P1i is not a P990i replacement!
SE have always marketed P-series as a 'Phone-PDA'(phone first), whereas P1i is more pure PDA without the flipkeypad. The true successor would still have a flip, which would also keep the P-series as the only 'modular' phone on sale I can think of(i.e: one you can actually physically modify the device without nullifying the warranty)......
Perhaps, it'll look like this......
Regardless, no flip.....no P-series....
