I'm considering the following as my next phone. Each is a Symbian S60 device. Each has Quad-band + EDGE, what I need for Cingular (AT&T) in the USA. I hate paying for 3G I can't use (except for the E50), but oh well

My questions are for the Mac users with Nokias here on Esato:

  1. How well do these synchronize with iCal & Address Book over iSync? over has always been excellent in this regard. I see that Nokia offers its own plug-in, does it work reliably? Can I sync any other data?
  2. For the N91 and N93, Nokia offers an iTunes plug-in. Does it work with any other S60 phone? If so, how well? Is music management as easy and convenient as it is with an iPod?

Thanks for your help. My W810 is becoming unreliable as a phone, and has been awful as a music player

I've got an N95, and iSync works very well with it. I seem to remember downloading a plugin for it to work though. As for the second question, I've used the Nokia iTunes software, although only once. it worked fine - it's just a case of setting up a playlist to go on the phone, then clicking 'sync now'.

I have had one issue with using the N95 and Mac together though, and that is when I plug the phone directly in and try to set mass storage mode, the phone won't let me. It says that the memory card is in use. Got myself a card reader to get around that one.

1. Nokia iSync plugin works flawlessly
2. I suggest you just drag and drop your music (n95 attached as mass storage)

or you can also try/purchase nova media's fonelink.

Thanks, everyone (really, this time!). I've since also done some Google'ing and also found that Nokia's iSync plug-ins work well, but their Music Manager for Mac does not. (It's not an iTunes plug-in, just a small utility for copying music files.)

Since nothing correctly integrates with iTunes except an iPod, I'm getting one of those again. I'm done screwing around with drag'n'drop or shareware that basically performs (with mixed results) the drag'n'drop for you.

Which means the E50 is probably the right phone for me, as it does have PDA functionality and does not attempt to be a multimedia device.

Not to mention, rumors are floating around of (1) a true media sync application from Nokia for the Mac and (2) a N95 variant with the US' 3G frequencies.

Guys, I'm not too sure how good the sync capabilities are for the Nokia N95.

Sure, you can successfully sync contacts. But meetings, appointments, to-do lists, reminders etc don't sync correctly - eg - I had some reminders on my n95. When I sync'd these to my Mac, and then back to the phone they automatically became Meetings and not To-Do's!

Maybe I'm doing something wrong - if so, please guide me in the right way Mac Users
