Hi guys...well this is my first thread here, so please me out ...
I am planning on a mobile upgrade...Up till now, I have used Sony Ericsson mobiles...The basic advantage I think SE's have over Nokia's, is the flexibility available in interface skinning...SE mobiles have really good skins (e.g. animated menus, phone vibration on menu movement, etc..), but still I am willing to give Nokia a chance ...
Well my choice has come down to 3 mobiles: N70, N73 and N80....My original choice was Nokia 6288, but when I found out that it doesnt support S60 apps, I have rejected it with a very heavy heart ....
Anyways,...here are the basic points I have found out of the above mobiles:
N70:
--> I dont like the look so much
--> Only 2 MP Camera (but good quality !!)
--> No Infrared (Is there any use of IR now that bluetooth has arrived ?)
--> No Joystick !!
N73:
--> Nice look
--> I hate joysticks (My SE joysticks were always a pain in the a$$)
--> A very high quality 3.2 MP camera !!
--> Has Infrared too
N80:
--> I really like the look of this one !! Especially in black :hehehe:
--> WLAN !!! (Although I wonder I useful it is...)
--> 3.0 MP Camera, with not so good performance (as far as I know)
--> No Joystick !!
Now here are the approximated prices of these sets in my country in US$:
N70: $270
N73: $370
N80: $370
So which one do you think is the best choice ?? I cant decide between these 3 mobiles |

i love the N80. That'd be my choice, but it does have a pretty bad battery. |

OK thanx for the support guys,....I really 'preciate it, but please be a little more descriptive about the reason behind your vote ....
Please consider the following points:
1) What about the N73's joystick...does it give problems ??
2) If you compare N70 to N73 and N80, then the basic difference I see is in camera (N70 is only 2 MP - but a good one from what I have heard), and presence of IR (N70 does not have IR)...I am not even sure if I will ever need IR again, not that Bluetooth has arrived....So basically what I am sayin here is: are N73/N80 worth the extra $100, just for a better camera and IR ?
3) Also, regarding the N73/N80 comparison, I guess it comes down to this:
Camera/battery life - go with the N73
Display (the screen is amazing!)/WLAN/form factor - Go with the N80
Any other comparison parameters to this case ? |

N80 is better because it doesnt have joystick, N73's joystick is very stiff. Its got better display, WiFi and quite frankly i think N73 looks wierd and N80 looks more compact. |

@ahmadka
I would rule out the N70 as that really is an old device now whilst both the N73 and N80 are running newer better versions of S60 and are much faster.
Really you need to tell us more about what you want /need your device to do for you and what your priorities are. N73 has the best camera, N80 has the best screen and WiFi but battery life is weaker than the N73's. Lastly it is down to if you prefer a candy bar or slider otherwise they both can run the same apps and accomplish the same tasks.

Hm....well I would have to say that I would really like to have the Wifi feature....I am really into that kind of stuff....but the fact is I hardly ever use Wifi on my laptop or PSP...reason ? I hardly know of any hot spots in my area....come to think of it, I have only used Wifi like 2 or 3 times on my PSP in the last about 8 months....on the other hand, I take pictures from my mobile more often...so a better camera would be great...
Well I have made a small list of stuff that I would in the new set...please have a look, and if some set other than the ones mentioned here comes in your mind, please let me know...
Bluetooth
2.0+ MP Camera
USB
3G
EDGE
Memory Card Slot
FM Radio
Flashlight
Infrared (recommended but not required)
Symbian Platform.. (The reason why 6288 was rejected)
All far as I know there are no SE phones that fulfill all of the above requirements
by the way, just making sure, N73 and N80 are 3G phones right ? |

I had an N70, had no problems and ticked all the right boxes for me. One thing that needs to be taken into account with the N70 is that it was (to my limited knowledge) nokia's first symbian phone, and so is slower and generally not as good as the symbians on the N73 and N80. I believe these problems can be overcome with updating the firmware but i find this to be a somewhat complicated and daunting process if your not too knowledged up on that sort of thing.
I recently upgraded to the N80 and found this to be even better! It has lots of excellent features many of which are the ones you have listed. Again to my limited knowledge the N80 and the N73 are similar phones with similar features and your decision will come down to design. Personally i prefer the N80's design over the N73 due to the N73 being a rather large phone, but N80 isn't the smallest phone either. It is quite thick and can often be struggle to get out of your pocket quickly! (Maybe my trousers are just too tight!) However, i think this can be overlooked because of the features that the N80 can offer you!
Hope this helps!
Chris

n70 was by no means the first symbian fone from nokia believe that honor goes to the 7650 which i think was also the 1st slider. but i think n70 was the 1st of the nseries. but either the n80 or n73 would probably suit u they are basicaly the same except from the differences previously mentioned. |

nothing wrong with N70, they are the finest phone back then, but it's true that now it is old fashioned. only if they boast a QVGA screen.....
i'd pick N80 over N73 anytime, mainly because it's more compact and full of features such as WIFI, where i need it most, but just a reminder, it's battery is at its weakest point |
