Which phone do you got? You can't have the autofocus lamp on. I don't think autofocus has a lamp. That red light sounds like xenonflash. Maybe you have a k800i (or k810i from your avatar)?

Hehe, my paranoia served me well lol. I had a feeling it'd screw up the camera or anything related lol. When I used it for the first and only time, I heard some clicks and clacks in the camera, prompting me to stop using the program. I guess it kinda overrides the camera to make it "autofocus" when in fact the camera isn't on, but make the light come on...

Great! I'll only use it when I really really need it. Last resort

The "clicks and clacks" you heard was probably the autofocus mechanism moving the lens back and forth. It should not do any harm to the phone, even though it adds some extra unnecessary battery consumption. I imagine there are several "torch" implementations, some of them more well-written than others. The on I tested once did not move the autofocus mechanism.
A much more simple and hazzle-free solution is otherwise to create a GIF image containing only white, that fills the entire screen. If you use that, the screen backlight is sufficient as a torch light in a dark environment.
