Paint a P990i black |

Hello!
I want to paint my SE P990i black, but is this possible? I know it's many things that can't be painted, like the numbers and letters under the buttons, the internet-button etc. But has anyone tried to paint it and can confirm that it is possible? I am afraid that I will just destroy the whole housing, and I don't want to risk that.
For those who are from Norway, look here for a more detailed version (yes, my English sucks, that's why I haven't translated eveything into English): http://www.diskusjon.no/index.php?act=ST&f=19&t=772585&st=0

I think painting the phone isn't that good idea. After all you could search to find any black housing for the P990 (if there is available). It won't be genuine , but what choice you have.

If I find a black housing, it will of course not be genuine, but I don't think it exists either. Therefore, I want to paint it myself, not buy it (just buy a regular silver housing and paint it). Of course, it may be a difficult job to do, but I am curious about how I'll be able to keep the letters and numbers below the buttons. I'll take out the QWERTY keyboard, but the flip needs to be painted too

I have no idea further . It's a bit tricky job to do. The letters are too small to be covered with something .

the ony remotely concievable way i can think of is using really tiny stickers, or using a computer to either paint on the letters or etch them into the paintwork. but the computer route would be mega expensive

Yes, the letters are to small to cover. The only solution I can come up with, is to not paint the flip. But it wouldn't look good, right?

You can leave the upper part and the kaypad silver as it is. Paint only the middle one that is grey.

That's a good idea. I have thought about something like that, but I would paint it in two colours (dark gray and black). The problem is that I have to cover everything, but if I do as you say, so is it not necessary. But on the other hand, would it look good, or would the contrasts between silver and black bee too large?
Anyway, I've found out that it's to hard to do something with the letters on the flip, so if I paint my cellphone, I'll not do anything with it. Just remove it

I don't think it's a very good idea to paint the housing, since it is very difficult to make the paint stay in place. The surface will become very sensitive for scratches and the underlying original color will show through each crack or scratch. I have actually tried once, on an old Motorola phone, many years ago, and I used a paint that was intended to be used on car rims, i.e. a very sustainable and high-quality product, but the paind did not stay at all places, unfortunately.
For my K700, I found a new housing, which was black from start. That made my K700 look very original and onlike any other phone. (My K800 is black from start, so I do not have to make any changes on it )
In any case, if you intend to start a paint project, you should at leas start with buying a new housing to work with, which is clean, scratch-free, and you will stil lhave the original housing as a backup if the project should fail.
You should start with sanding the surfaces with very fine-grained sandpaper, which makes the paint stick better. |

"and I used a paint that was intended to be used on car rims" - but you used paint for aluminium or other metal surface. There are several types of color, some for metal, some for wood so I'm not sure if the color will stay "forever".

If I do this, I will buy a new housing. I need a backup housing if I destroy/f*** up the housing I am painting I guess it will work if I use the right colour and sandpaper before painting. The housing costs something like 50 USD + shipping on eBay, so I have to be sure that I can do this before I buy something. Won't waste 50 $ on a housing I will destroy
