I transferred three folders of images from my Intel iMac onto my N95 using mass storage mode, and for some strange reason, one of the folders is suffering from a weird problem - some of the photos will not show up in Gallery.

When using Gallery, I get the little broken image icon showing for these files. If I then go into File Manager and into that folder, I can view the photos by opening them up individually.

I know that the Mac is notorious for putting on hidden files that can sometimes cause problems for storage media (.Trash files and .DS_Store files, grrr), so I then connected the phone to a Windows laptop and deleted all those files after showing hidden files. Still no joy with the photos.

I deleted the images that wouldn't work, and this time I sent them via bluetooth to the phone. They still refuse to show up. I've cleaned the folder of any Apple files, so I don't know what's wrong.

I'm assuming this is an Apple issue rather than a Nokia one, as I've had this before with an SE M600i. Anyone else had this kind of problem with a Mac before? I guess I'll just have to use my wife's laptop whenever I want to transfer anything to my phone in future.

And there was I, thinking Macs were supposed to be easier to use (and more productive, apparently) than PCs...

Have you tried using one of the utilities on the page below for cleaning all the .DS_Store etc. files off the memory card?

I use 'CleanUpNonMacDisks' personally.

yes, a number of times. I even reformatted the card and tried putting the photos on there again. Still not working.

Tried using a Windows machine today; I copied just the images onto it, then transferred them onto a freshly formatted memory card. Still didn't work.

I guess my phone hates these photos!!

Macs can open pictures without relying on the .jpg or .gif suffix. Windows needs a file code to recognize any document or photo. Without a .doc suffix a text document will be invisible in Windows, for example. On your Mac, go to Finder > Preferences > Advanced > and check the box for "show all file extensions". Then try to transfer them onto your phone. Hopefully they'll open. Keep in mind that your Mac will open more kinds of files than your phone will. Some types of files like Powerpoint, Excel, etc, won't work on your phone without a third-party app to handle them. If one such app even exists.

Thanks for the info about Macs, but I already knew that.

The photos all have .jpg extensions on them, and I've tried both .jpg and .JPG. I also tried copying them to the phone, but they still won't show.

Cheers Fatreg, that worked! WTF??

Couldn't do it with iDisk, as it wouldn't authorise my phone to access the files. Did it with Photobucket instead. As you said though, it's a right pain in the a*se.

so what exactly did you do to fix this problem? i've copied my photos from the card to the phone's memory back to the card hoping the phone would be able to identify the photos, however this hasn't worked at all. i've got a 512mb transflash memory card (the kind used by the phone). ;

if anyone here has solved this problem, i urge you to please let it be known how you did it
