Does it matter whether the phone is unlocked before you change the code and flash the ROM to generic? Mine is, I think, Orange only until i get the unlock code which should be any day. Should I wait? And what do I press to see what ROM version I have please?
Is it as easy to flash as everyone says? How do you stop it switching off during the process. I am at the "easy to have a heart attack" time of life and want to stay a member for a bit longer!
Sorry about this, only got it this afternoon.
Doug

no, it does not matter. locking and flashing are two separate and independant things

I've done 5 N95's now so have no fear as it couldn't be any easier

Sorry, Masseur, another question please? Does NSS version 1.0.38.10 work with Vista? When I click on the find devices, it then says not responding and I have to shut it down. That's as far as i get!
any ideas?

I have never got it to work on Vista though I have read some people say they got it working in compatibility mode

I have an old XP laptop specifically for this kind of thing

you can still try it in compatibility mode, I'm no vista expert yet so and as I said, some people have reported it to work.

or, you can send it to me with a return postage paid packet and I'll do it and return it same day.

or, find a mate with an XP PC and do it on that!

lots of choices

Thanks. I will try the compat mode first, then my missus has Win XP so I'll have to sneak it on there.
If all else fails, I'll PM you for your address and send it to you by RMSD.
Thanks for the offer, much appreciated.
Just downloading the GPS smartmap at Warp speed (lol) so will try it when it's finished.

you'll have no trouble on your wifes pc. just don't forget to install the pc suite before running NSS, but also remember to close pc suite from the system tray before running NSS

We are getting somewhere. Got it going in compatibility mode, gives me lots of info. When I tick the product code and read, it comes up with a read error. Is this because it is in the mass storage mode downloading the maps rather than PC Suite mode? Seems logical.
When I finish downloading the UK maps, a week next Tuesday, I presume it should work in PC Suite mode? Thanks again mate sorry to be a pain.

Went like a dream. Just got to change the code back now, as some have suggested.
Maps took nearly four hours to download - for 113Mb. What a joke! GPS is good though. What a phone.

Thanks for your confidence boosting! With Vista, you need to change NSS to compatibility mode for it to work. Might help some others.
