I think it locked when the discusion is private. Not a 100% on that.

I think I can answer that...
A topic will be locked if the answer to the question has been given and the rest of the discussion is not in connection to the original question, or is out of line.
They may also be locked if the question has been asked numerous times before, then usually with a link to the relevant topic, a refference to the Search function or FAQ.
Topics may also be removed if they are not acceptable towards Esato's policy. They are then usually moved to the Moderators area for a closer jugement by the Moderators as a group. Some topics may then be "fine tuned" (not altered) and put back into the forum.
It is the individual moderator who is deciding what to do there and then, whilst the other moderators can query the decision made in a closed forum.
Some topics will allso be moved from their original forum to another. that is if the topic have more relevance in another forum. Like questions about a Nokia should be in "Other Manufacturers" not in " General".
I hope this answers your question.

this goes back to my observation...why is it that there are sections here that you can find so much locked topics (asia-pacific) while in other sections you don't see locked topics even if threads are redundunt-example is the topics about the p800 so many repetitive threads about its availability... Jwb- maybe they overlooked. I like to suggest that the moderators shld check a new topic before they are allowed to be posted- to avoid duplicates. And delete all existing locked and duplicate topics.

Yeah, but with the amount of new topics on esato, the moderators would be over run!
