Hi there,

I've been having problems recently with the walkman feature on the w810i. I'm able to succesfully send music to my 4GB memory stick using disc2phone and they all save correctly in the sounds folder under correct names. However when i open up songs in the walkman, all the names of many of the songs seem to be wrong. ie the names of artists, album or song titles are missing a few of the letters from the end of them. I'd say it would probably be happening to about 75% of my songs

I tried to fix this by checking that all the details were correct on my computer, which they were, and have also tried restarting the phone and also reinstalling all the songs again through disc2phone but they still have this name glitch when opened in the walkman. I have transferred songs before and had no problem and it has only been recently that they have seemed to start to leave off letters in walkman. I was thinking possibly having to do a master reset of the phone or formatting the memory card?? but just wasn't quite sure where the problem lies

Eg on my computer and in the sounds folder i would have the album

Ministry of Sound: The Annual 2007 Disc 1

yet in walkman it appears as:

Ministry of Sound: The Annual

Eg2 on my computer and in the sounds folder i would have the artist

Rage Against The Machine

yet in walkman it appears as:

Rage Against The Machin

All the songs still play properly and everything yet its just that many have incomplete titles, whether it be artist, song or album.

Does anyone have any ideas on what i should do to try and fix this problem???

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this has become very frustrating for a phone that is meant to be able to function as a stand alone music player, yet i cant have the correct names appear under the artist/album/song titles

Although Disc2phone software is crap. I don't think it's due to that. Unfortunately if the title information is too long, then the last few letters will always be missed off.

Shame the Walkman player does not have scrolling text.

... adding to my previous post, the last bit was cut off by my phone for some reason. Windows explorer is better in my opinion, it's more time consuming but it's fail-safe.

I always use Windows Explorer too, unfortunately for SE their Disc2Phone software is pretty woeful!

I have that on W810is too, as Abbafan's stated, it's probably due to a character limit on artist/song title lengh being displayed on the screen, and a lack of scrolling text, not a transferring/filename problem.

Just looked on my W900i and that has the same problem - Katie Melua - The Closest Thing To Crazy is displayed as 'Katie Melua - The Closest Thing To Cra' on the screen.

I have a similar problem with my w810i walkman function - except instead of just truncating the album or artist name, it also splits each artist (and sometimes each album as well) into multiple folders, each containing some of the tracks from the one album. for example, sending The Feeling's "Twelve Stops and Home" to the phone, the walkman will show me folders for

The Fee >
The Feel >
The Feeli >

and one or more of these will also include folders for "Twelve Sto" *and* "Twelve Stop"

Between all these folders I will have all of the tracks on the album, but it's a right pain trying to play through them, even in a random order.

Any ideas?

I am having the exact same problem with a W850i - tags for artist, album and title are being cut off (not even excessively long ones) and at different lengths for the same album eg:

Artist:
Col
Coltr
Coltra
etc.

This has happened repeatedly, but not predictably - it happens to some files but not others. I do not use the Sony software, and it has happened with automatic synchronisations as well as careful manual transfers. I have checked the transferred files and their tags come up as correct in the file-manager. Music plays fine.
