weird issue with the k800i. |

Hello, I've been using my k800i for over half a year now. and its been fine.. It crashed today for no reason. But I managed to turn it back now.. its working fine.. except the display is all weird. mainly the text part. the image is fine.. its just that the "Calls" now read "Ca"; Entertainment reads "E e a e"
Basically the text isnt being displayed properly and there seems to be missing text. :S I dont know if anyone had this problem before.. Hopefully it can be resolved. because I had to refer to the manual to find out " f e" in general settings was "Profiles"
Btw. I managed to try a Master reset. but that didnt fix anything.
It seems to have no trouble displaying a-g. it seems to have lost the ability to display h-z, numbers and other symbols.. :S

When I had a missing icon problem with my k800i the repair center told me to turn it off, remove the battery and leave it off for 10 mins then re-insert the battery and power it up, after doing this everything was normal again - might not work for you but its sure worth a try

I had a similar problem with my K800i a long time ago. Some texts in the menus were replaced by long integers. I solved the problem by changing the dialog language, and then changing the language back to the original again. Somehow, the phone loads the dynamic text strings from a read-only repository, and in order to reload the strings, you must switch language. |

I tried the turning off and removing the battery thing for 10 minutes and reinserting it, but it didn't work. I also tried the Changing language (But since I dont know what the original language was, since i cant understand what the text say) I tried all available options, still didn't work. But thanks anyway
I have't tried doing the firmware update, I don't want to update the firmware over the air, so the only other option is via PC connected on the internet, however the software provided by Sony's website does not want to start due to incompatible flash apparently. So I don't know which Flash version is compatible with the update problem (apparently the latest one on their site isn't it.. :S) |

okay. I found a machine that was able to open the sony's update service program and I managed to update the K800i to supposedly the latest one currently available. That didn't help..
altemyr, since you had this or similar problem before.. can you walk me through how to change the dialog language in case I did something wrong..
I went to Settings (my phone says "e g") In general settings. according to manual its the 3rd one down which on my phone says "a g age".
Inside that theres 2 sub menu (dont know what they actually mean, but my phone shows
1.) "e a g age" and
2.) "g a g age"
inside 1.) I see
(in radio buttons)
- "Acc d g"
- "E g"
- " d e a"
- "B aa a"
- "F"
- " g"
- (last option appears to contain no text)
inside 2.)
(in Checkboxes)
- "E g"
- " d e a"
- "C e e"
- "a da d abc"
- (last option appears to contain no text)
apparently my phone is only capable of display letters ranging from a-g and the & sybmol. The date and time are replaced with @ symbol. And none of the numers show. Which makes dialing a phone number quite hard, cause you don't know if u made a mistake until you actually press the call button.. :S

what is your firmware version? I have the tag problem before, but it's gone with R1JG. not too sure about the alphabet problem though. |

@fullmetal:
Don't have your phone. However, on my z610i, the two choices under language are:
-Phone language
-Writing language
Under Phone language, I have:
-According to SIM
-Deutsch
-English
-Français
-Nederlands
Under Writing language I have:
-German
-English
-French
-Dutch
-Standard abc
-1 2 3
Of course, the various languages will vary according to where you bought your phone.
Hope this helps.

I had this problem when I didn't have any fonts, which means, somehow, your fonts got corrupted. |

In standby mode, you can reset the menus to english by the key sequence
< 0 0 0 0 >
It's even written in the manual..
(note: After you made the last joystick-right move, wait a few seconds, otherwise, you will cancel the operation.) |

Hi, may I ask if you have solved this issue?
The same happend to me after one week having k800!.
I am just thinking if I should return it or just replace it with the same one...( as I quite like this phone..).
Thanks
