Possible reason for the P800 delay |

Something I've been thinking about for a few weeks now, which I'm not sure if I've just missed previous discussions about, i'm sure we all know that back in August SE challenged developers to make apps for the big P, and that the top 50 would be announced on the first of Dec, a week Sunday, not only is this something to look forward to but mentioned also was that they would be " highlighted within the Sony Ericsson P800 Smartphone launch campaign" surely then it should've warned us about the late launch of the phone?!?! |

Old topic. Please use search next time. Software support for Symbian 7.0 is currently near non-existent. Only Bitween and a few others have plans to release major commercial software. If this application proclamation is a success, then much more software will be out. |

In fact it has been delayed till January 10, 2003.
You can see it here:

Here is the interesting part:
UPDATE:On request from many interested developers, who have had problems getting hold of the Symbian OS v7.0 UIQ SDK when not utlilizing available development tools, we have decided to prolong the P800 Application Proclamation. A new beta version of the UIQ SDK will be downloadable from www.SonyEricsson.com/codetocash from September 24. Submissions of applications to the P800 Application Proclamation will be accepted until 8:00 pm (CST) on December 6, 2002. Winners will be announced January 10, 2003.
There are a lot of possible explanations:
- They are so late releasing their phone, so they prefer to say they
wait for some software apps.
- There is very little participation.
- All apps they have received are crap.

I don't think this proclamation will have much success, because it is simply the most stupid software competition I have heard of. Especially for a competition intented to encourage developers to produce software for a platform which has ZERO third-party apps available. You actually have to GIVE THEM MONEY ($500) first in order to get into the competition!!! Somebody said earlier, it should be called cash2SE and not code2cash. If SE wants their P800 to be a successful PDA it has to encourage people to develop good software for it by giving them FREE tools and FREE competitions. Just look at the amount of software available for PocketPC and PalmOS! This is certainly not a good way to compete against them... |

The P800 price is indicated in the CodeToCash FAQ !!!!!!!!!!!!
While explaining what you can win, look a what SE says:
"A brand new Sony Ericsson P800 Smartphone (value $800+ USD)"
All details here:

Oh, and btw, you can forget about those cool camera apps which already exists today for the 7650: like that FotoFunPack or the one where you can record video (yes, small video clips) with the camera and send it in an MMS or Email. Those apps won't work on P800!!! Why? Because:
'There is no camera API provided to third parties for the P800.'
