I bought my Pivot OAD Silicone Case 7 months ago, and thought it will keep my K750i clean and secure. But now 7 months later, after I had removed it for the first time, I was very suprised to find my phone in a very ''dirty state''. I quess there's no ultimate protection for our beloved phones.

@maggflodd - Your right . Good thing about it is that after cleaning the dirt, my phone looks like I've just bought it.
Post your experiences with all kinds of protectors for mobile phones (silicone, crystal, plastic cases, screen protectors etc.)

The phone needs to be removed from the case and cleaned about once a month or so. No case is absolutely dust-proof.

problem with those silicon cases is that they also trap moistures/condensation - i.e. naturally occuring dampness (change in temperature, humidity etc...) cannot "escape"...
and don't get me started on those cheap belt-pouches... over time those metal clips damage the pouch and the phone worse than carrying the phone in your pocket

That's why I don't use cases, I've also had problems in the past where dirt/dust has rubbed on parts of the phone covering it in lots of tiny scratches due to the friction of that dust between the case and phone's facia/display area. Left certain areas of the phone looking like they'd been gone over with a fine grade sandpaper!

Crystal cases are really bad if they have manufacturing defects. I once bought one with defects in the screen area which left marks on my phones screen.
Beware of those...

I've also had that same problem before... whats worse, the dirt became a little harder to remove because of the time it spent under that silicone case... I never used one again. lol
@arien
also had that problem with a crystal case... it also left a mark on the screen of my k800.

Hi all,
Well I actually disagree with most of you all my devices always go in a good quality leather case(usually Krusell) as i prefer my phone on my waist not in a pocket.
Even in a case i still clean the device occasionally as like my device to look good and any one that has bought a device off we confirm that they remain mint. If you treat your device well it will work better and you will get a better price when you come to sell well at least that is my experience.

Hi Marc,
I agree with you. I have a Samsonite leather holster for my phone, and wouldn't do without it - it's saved my phone several times already when I've accidentally dropped it. Leaving phones in one's pocket, next to keys, coins and f**k knows what else, is just asking to have it embedded with dust, lint and covered with scratches.

See all you have to is keep the phone in one pocket and everything else in the other, that's what I do anyway...

I gave up on phone cases a while back because of the same dust/dirty/yukkyness collecting up over time.
My k800 and p990 both have screen protectors and my pockets are sufficient place to keep them.
Regular maintenance is much better way to keep your phone in decent condition and witohut a case you're almost certain to wipe it off if you see anything on it. |

@Dogmann,
agree - krusell are quite good; on e61 it doesn't cover the screen so no "trapped-dust-scratches", no trapped moisture... And the case in neoprene inside without any sharp metal bits poking through - result: my e61 after 7 months is "as new"!!! Plus, even though it's sturdy, my phone would be dead by now without it... Sure, some flashy phones look silly in silly cases...

Nah, I prefer not to do that, as I just like to toss whatever in my pockets, without having to think about it all the time.
I prefer a combination of holsters, protectors and regular cleaning to keep the phone in tip-top shape. Besides, I've got a nice holster - leather on the inside and out, with no metal bits exposed.
