hi guys,

my phone got the white screen of death. preparing for a reflash i connected it to myphoneexplorer and copied data from the phone to the sim (contacts). after i disconnected the phone i saw that my screen was working again!

I was super happy - and it was all good for 3 days, until this morning I took it out of my bag and the screen was white. not REALLY white, only with a bright white tinge (you could still see the numbers etc - and it still worked). only when i turned it off/on was it truly white (i.e. couldnt see anything)

does this sound like hardware or software? dunno if it's worth the $$ to reflash

cheers

it seems to be a hardware issue. this could be a problem with your lcd screen. what's your phone, a w600?

the white dead is a bad thing, hopefully its just a fw bug, not hw. it could happen after a wrong flash or upgrade. let it check in a mobile shop, the first thing u can and have to do is to flash it again.

dont flash it if u still have a warranty on it, if not u will void ur warranty, besides if the problem is as you have described it, it doesnt sound like WSOD but a hardware problem instead, maybe something wrong with your screen

I actually work with these things - LCDs - as an engineer. Seems like hardware problem to me but very strange behaviour that you still could see some text or numbers and then nothing.
What phone is it that you have?
What color is the display when it is turned off - light or dark?
Could you see the numbers changing on the display or were they just fixed before it died again?

it is a sony d750i - flashed to a w800i

yeh basically the screen when a white tinge (like a massive white overlay, as if you turn up the brightness, but was still responsibe to the menus/changes etc)

turning off-and-on - white again. it repaired itself, but broken again - so i took it back to the shop

Could be... It's the same display for both phones, but there are two versions of the LCD. The fw thinks it drives the other version.

Hmmm. . . I thought that was a hardware problem.Thought that there was a problem in the chip that converts the data for the screen to be viewable. But this prob's occurring only on the connections of k750i and w800.Goto http://kannada.wen.ru maybe it'd help. But now i think that the w8 is not compatible with that screen.Try shaking your phone a bit but be careful you don't drop it.Still,if the phone REPAIRED itself after you flashed, you must have shacked it or maybe it recieved some extra current which made it active.Similarly,if you had carried the bag then probably it recieved a jerk.Still it's a HARDWARE problem and that's clear.
