Is it possible to have a VIRUS from a picture file or ringtone downloaded to your phone to date? Can it disrupt the functions of the phone? Would Norton be able to create an anti-virus for cellphones? |

Wow really interesting question. I dont think so cause if it is possible then there should be an anti virus program for cell phone already. Isn't it?

I've heard about a few viruses. If your phone starts to act funny just restart it.

It might be possible if it is a P800 or 7650. Then there would be a symbian software for anti virus eh? Hehe

To date, no. But when the phones come with more and more advanced downloadable applications the chances would increase for a virus finding it's way in to an application. It would, on the other hand, not be able to get in to the telephony part of your unit.

Actually guys viruses are a reality on cell phones.
I remember reading about a virus that spread through
sms messaging.
And also obviously viruses will spread more with all the new high-tech
phones coming out.

Sorry too say that but it is possible on simple phone without java or things like that, it's spread via sms message ... 2 or 3 years ago we had an alert from proximus that a virus is spreading trough cell phones it copys your sim it and send the data to the creator so he can use your card and your money !!!!
How it works ??? Well you receive a sms from proximus ( it's a number of proximus but it's not proximus ) it ask you to reply to the message because of testing something ( don't remember all the thing ), you see that it is from proximus so you think that it's secure and that you can trust the message, you reply to the message and ........... voila say goodbye too your money
This is real !!!!! But now the network is secured for things like that so this virus doesn't work anymore ...... I think |

Im not sure if it was a virus or not, but i recieved a sms, which would not go away, and would not allow me to delete it, had to reset my phone to get rid of it. Not sure but i think it was a virus.

That was probably a bug in the software in your phone!
There are loads of HOAX virus scares made up by trouble makers, as yet there are no known malicious viruses on GSM handsets.
OTA settings can mess up your configurations etc. but you have to be sent one from a computer and you have to accept it first - it's not really a virus as it is not spread from phone to phone, and it's no worse than you manually messing up your WAP profile etc.
