I got a z600 in early 2004 and it has served me loyaly throughout this time. Still has 3 days of battery life on average, amazing load speed on GPRS and plays nice with my mac.
Unfortunately, the browser is showing its age, regular timeouts on gmail and yahoo..

My needs are basic:
- great battery life
- reliable GPRS/browser
- Plays nice with mac
- preferably clamshell

I'm not a big fan of the new SE candybars, I must admit! screens are smaller than m Z600 which is no good for browsing.

- I really like the M608 but the lack of camera kinda bothers me
- the Z610 is looking like the heir to the throne but I'm not sure about the battery life.
- Treo 680 is looking really good right now but battery life issues and below par camera for the price.

The thing that bothers me too is that most nokia phones now include document viewers for pdf/word but SE doesnt.. I usually like to get my money's worth.

any advice?
I'm not sure I'll ever be able to find proper replacement

that's what I'm leaning towards..

I don't need the smartphone capability since I always have my palm but it's a nice backup to have.

anyone else care to jump in?

I can get the Z610 for about 230$ unlocked in Beijing and love the fact that I can get SE to send me the gprs settings from their website. it should last me another 2 years at least

I see two possibilities for you:

Z610 = fantastic phone. Got the pink one for my wife for Xmas and she loves it. Screen is much better than the Z600 and my wife only runs it on GSM (not 3G) and the battery life is excellent (she charges it once a week). The 2Megapixel camera is good and overall I rate this phone very highly.

The Z610 is a 3G phone, which is really fast for browsing but the battery life is not as good then (about half the battery life compared to GSM only). You can of course trun off 3G (my wife has) but then you have GPRS only (no EDGE support).

The other possibility is the Z310. This is also a great phone, with GPRS & EDGE support (no 3G) and it has almost everything the Z610 has, except for the camera is a VGA camera (very poor compared to the Z610 2Megapixel).

Finally, if not in a hurry, wait for the Z750. The specs on this phone are fantastic, it has 3G + HSDPA (3.5G) and also support EDGE & GPRS, so you can have it all (super fast downloads or turn off 3G and still have fast downloads on GSM with EDGE support). It is equal (2Megapixel camera) or better than the Z610 (e.g. includes a radio), but is the same size, weight and has better battery life.

I'd think the Z610 or Z750 would be alright for you.
I don't want a signature anymore.

In my point of view, change the "unique one" with another "unique one". I'm speaking about the screen actually.

Z600 is the first SE to use "real" TFD LCD. that's bright as you can see, brighter if you compare to your friends' T610s (STN) or T630s (TFT).

Thus.. it will be very cool to have the phone that is nearly the same and as unique as Z600, which is Z610i (TFD).

All I can say, the screen is really bright. You will love it.

The sound is awesome. Camera is real good for a non-AF 2MP cam.

Keypad and design is awesome. [addsig]

thank you guys!

It does indeed look like it shall be the Z610 that succeeds to my soon-to-retire Z600! I'll head to the store this weekend and play with it.

I have a few worries about the camera being exposed without any protection and the white keypad (gonna get soooo dirty) but overall, it's looking like it'll be in my pocket soon.

I've considered the Z750 but god knows when they'll release it to market.. and even then, it'll be a while until it makes it to Beijing. I'd have to go to HK to get it which is not an interesting proposition.
I just need something to keep me busy until the iphone comes out or palm releases something more interesting than the 680

done deal...

I went to the shop sunday and spent an hour looking at the phones there..

the Z610 was my first choice but the blue one was white inside.. big no no for me. I need a phone that won't get dirty easily.. you have no idea how much dust is flying around in beijing and gets everywhere.
The black one was stylish and almost won me over...

I looked at the k800 but didn't like the buttons... too hard, didn't like the feedback on them

and finally, the w850 in black...

same functionality as all of those models, flash camera, slide design which is always interesting and a good transition from flipper...

I was sold!!!

now, yours truly is running around with a w850 and marvelling at how far the SE user interface has come in 3 years... kept the best of the old stuff and made it better...

Here's to hoping this one lasts as long as its predecessor.... or until the iphone is out

just wondering, you didn't like the white one?

imho, I'd rather the white one more than the black, but this is maybe because I've had too many black phones.

i myself don't like black phones either, sure i had the few, but i found them boring.
still i'm getting a black Z610i dude to lack of other colors.
the white on the blue Z610i makes it indeed look ungly and toyish.
i hope you enjoy the W850i, its keys are bassed on the good old W550i, one of the best keys i've ever used
