A Patent has been filed for a PDA with detachable mobile phone housed in the back.

Esato News

With an increasing amount of different electronic devices incorporated into a single device, the PDA will become too large to stow in a breast pocket when only the mobile phone portion is required.

This handheld electronic device contains all the functions of a conventional PDA as described above with the inclusion of a detachable mobile phone. The small mobile phone device is housed in a recess provided on the back panel of the PDA. The recess is equipped with a mechanical link to keep the phone docked and an electrical connection by which data on the PDA can be synchronized with that of the detachable phone.

Once detached, the small handheld mobile phone is powered by its own internal battery and contains the basic function buttons to, for example answer calls, type text messages and scroll through telephone numbers stored in its memory. Once docked into the PDA, the mobile's battery is charged by that of the PDA or an external charger, which is plugged into the power mains. source:IOL Patent Page

Its quite an original idea, i'm surprised no one thought of this before it would be nice to datach just the phone part when the pda isn't required, like on the weekends or a night out.
