Go to the service menu-> service tests->speakers the volume is set to 50% but you can set it up to 100% |

And after you have done that... check again... its back to 50% ;-(
Its always back to 50%. This does not change anything. Its only for testing purposes. Even if some 'think' its higher, if that would be true, then do this 20 times and the volume should up 1000%... and that can't be.

i've heard that when you do this step, you should restart your phone and it worked.
acually i did not test it as i like the sound to be in medium level.

Hey Guys, i know it seems weird, but its not psychological michael. I can actually hear now since doing this, so much so that I have to turn the volume down when talking to some people whom I had to strain to hear before. I dont think it actually affects the rear speaker though.
I cannot explain it, but changing it in the speaker test affects the earpiece volume when you reboot. I would imagine going back into the service area and testing speaker settings has a default stting of 50%.
Many of us who have tried this will tell you it works. And a constant phone user will know whether the sound is different after doing this. It can't be just a figment of one's imagination....one can hardly "think" it works! considering how tough people are on the P990 I don't see a give-way that easily.
Test it out for yourselves and post your thoughts then. I agree, the concept is really odd and I have asked for feedback on how this is really working since it doesnt make sense technically.
Do note - this seems only to affect the EARPIECE volume and not the external speaker. At least, thats my experience.

I tried it and it worked. I Increased the speaker volume to 100% then exit the service test. Now its louder than before. I did another test, lower the speaker volume to 10% to really see the diffrence and yes the volume is very low during calls. I guess this is how you adjust the speaker volume aside from the Sound and Alert volume setting. |

Yes, of course it workes. But, its only the volume when you make a phone call. Right now I have to lower the volume when I make a call, its really loud

Thats about the rear speaker...not the front speaker. The front speaker volume remains to what i have set(100%) but the rear speaker volume goes back to 50% as soon as u exit the Service menu.

Okay, just tried it several times and 1 out of 5 it worked. Most of the time there is NO sound in Front Speaker test... but when it is, it keeps the setting. For both speakers even.

@all
So are you saying that it works only for outgoing calls!and nothing would change for incoming calls? |

Doesn't adjusting the volume with the jog wheel during the call do exactly the same thing? That's how it seems to me. |

No - it works for any kind of calls - but only during calls. Ringtones or Mediaplayer won't get any louder by this.
@olly232: No - it's not the same. When you adjust the volume with the jog wheel during the calls with and without this trick to 100% - there is a major difference in volume. The max volume you can reach with this trick is much higher.
And it seems that not all firmware revisions have this crippled volume problem. Before updating to R9EC001 the volume of my phone was always like 100%.
