W300i Microphone Problem, only works when you SHOUT into it! |

Got this W300i off Ebay as faulty to fix. It's fully working except for the mic. You can hear yourself but a bit quiet in the service test, but once I try making a call you can't hear anything on the other end - except if I shout, or blow onto the mic.
I'm suspecting possible moisture damage, have tried spraying the mic with wd-40 but so far with no effect. It looks to be integrated onto the mainboard so I have a nasty feeling it's not replaceable, which is a shame as I have another W300i that's blocked I could use for spares.
Also have updated it via SEUS with no joy. Will a reflash with Wotanserver help at all, just on the off chance it could be a software problem? Seems odd that the mic picks up me blowing on it very well, but not speech? I was thinking of debranding the phone anyway (Got Orange firmware on it at the mo). Any chance this would work or would I be wasting a credit?

I also had this problem with a moto... Reason Moisture... Was faintly audible even when i shouted into it.. Took to a service centre, and got the mic replaced... For quite a fortune, though...

I suspect it's moisture damage too, I've now debranded the phone and reflashed it using Wotan with no joy
Problem is the mic is integrated onto the mainboard - can this be replaced without any soldering - does it just 'pop' out?

you can debrand rebrand upgrade downgrade software as long as you want without joy. the mic should work with every software version. if it doesn't work with one version, it wouldn't work with anyone.
replace the mic if you want to hope for the best

That's what I want to do, and have a fully working mic currently on a blocked W300i I'd like to install on the phone, but don't know how - and hope it doesn't involve soldering!

it'll involve soldering, that's for sure... it's not a DIY...
and if you still wanna go at it yourself, proceed with caution...
