I have a Nokia 8800 and am looking to purchase a new bluetooth car kit.
I'm looking to spend max. AU$300.
The 2 kits that caught my eye are the Sony Ericsson HCB-700 and the Motorola HF850.
Hopefully someone can give me some good info.
cheers

1st choice would be Nokia CK-7W.
It's reasonably priced, reliable, and well supported if any thing does go wrong. You have the option of wired or BT connection and at the end of the day you just can't beat a wired connection. Plus your friends and family can connect via BT.
2nd choice would be SE HCB-700.
The best BT only kit in terms of features, designed for phones but works fine with Nokias so I've been told.
Other choices
- HCB-100 portable carkit to attach to your sunvisor. Cheaper.
- Sony MEX-BT2500 headunit with built in Carkit, downloadable phonebook, phone info displayed on screen and A2DP if your phone supports it. A little over your price, but worthy of consideration.
- Blue Ant or Parrot BT kit
Numerous options available some Parrot kits connect to steering wheel controls on European cars.
The Motorola BT kit is a pretty rare beast here in NZ and frankly if it broke it might take ages to fix. NZ installers don't carry parts for them to my knowlegde. As for using with a Nokia, I wouldn't bother.
Do you have a Commodore or Falcon? If so, get your installer to hook up the speaker interface, it's very cool.

Hey thanks for your reply.
I decided to get the Nokia CK-7W. It's to be connected to my BMW.
Now i'm just looking for a cheap installer cause i doubt i can do it by myself.
Could you tell me what the advantages and disadvantages are of hooking it up with a wired or bluetooth connection? I'd probably prefer bluetooth as it is a lot neater. |

With a wired connection you don't have any of the rare loss of BT connection issues and the (required) mobile holder will charge the phone.
With a BT connection you can pair up to 5 different phones or if you buy a new BT phone you don't have to buy a new Carkit. Avantages in convenience for ladies who don't want to have to take the phone out of thier handbag every time and also easier/cheaper to install with no mobile holder.
I wouldn't attempt fitting it yourself if you have no Mechanic /Auto Electrical experience especially on a Beemer as they're harder than most to work on. A carkit is a pretty simple electrical device but a BMW isn't.
BMW's have Stereo MUTE connector on the rear of the Headunit, make sure your installer connects it.
