Fantastic news, wafer thing transparant batterys are coming to our phones soon!
"The clear flexible plastic in the image is a battery, it is a polymer based rechargeable battery made by Japanese scientists. Drs Hiroyuki Nishide, Hiroaki Konishi and Takeo Suga at Waseda University have designed the battery which consists of a redox-active organic polymer film around 200 nanometres thick.
The power rate performance is strikingly high it only takes one minute to fully charge the battery and it has a long cycle life, often exceeding 1,000 cycles."

That is great news, mobiles in the future will or should have some cracking designs.

All of a sudden this concept looks very possible now!

Sounds almost too good to be true, but if it's real, then I think mobile devices are in for a design revolution. And imagine how many spares you can keep in you wallet!

1000 cycles thats not much. and the cost of such a thing would be more then a 32G MSD

I suppose that kind of battery wouldn't come cheap.

Just how long is 1000 cycles? |

@lastikcizme
A cycle is variable, 1 cycle is a full charge/discharge so the length of 1000 cycles changes according to usage... unless i'm mistaken.

Oh, i see, thanks Arien.. I confused it with the stand-by time, now it's sorted out.
I wonder how long is the stand-by time of this battery, though..?

I'm interested to see how long it lasts. What he says dodges that question.
The power rate performance is strikingly high it only takes one minute to fully charge the battery and it has a long cycle life, often exceeding 1,000 cycles.
Fast recharge, 'long' cycle life, but no mention about capacity.

even at 1 cycle per day its arround 3 years of durability (and thats more time that i really use a phone, the most i have had a phone is like 2 years) So for me its good enough |

since it's just a break through i'm sure there will be further development making it better just like LiPo. although I don't see a reason for it to be transparent...

there is a pretty good reason for it to be transparent: imagine this being used to create the screens on cell phones (not the actual lcd) but the cover on the casing... it'll serve a pretty good dual purpose and the call phone will be a lot thinner and lighter, though the obvious problem here would be battery replacement... |

Since different devices have a different power consumption, it's pretty hard to say how long it can last isn't it? But I suppose it would have been better if they could have given us a rough idea of how long it can last in a typical mobile phone, etc...
