the back cover does not have a "lense" in it. It is mounted to the camera and SE says it should not scratch??? I put a k750 back plate on mine!!!

should not scratch? That'd mean it's glass. If it is (which I doubt) then you must have really hammered it to get it scratched.

The W810i's lens is surprisingly easy to scratch - the problem is not the glass lens, but the bluey-coloured multicoating on it's surface. This scratches and comes off very easily, no matter how careful I was with my W810i it still developed scratches and wear on this coating, so I can see why the OP wants a lens cover.
IMHO this is the one real design flaw with this phone

oh I agree with him wanting a lens cover I just didn't think that the W810 had a glass lens (the see through bit that covers the ACTUAL lens, which is most definitely plastic). Infact I'm pretty sure it's just plastic like that of the K750.
You are right the coating is scratched very easily. On K750 too if you are not careful.
You can use a K750 back panel to protect your W810 lens. It won't be an active lens cover as with the K750, but it will protect the lens just fine.
My K750 mainboard and components sit in a W810 chasis (middle part of the casing), with a K750 front and back panel, so it's very doable to put a K750 back panel on a W810.

Replacing the back and the middle panel is possible between k750 and w810. You cannot change only the front one. Actually by putting k750 back panel of the housing on the w810 you will get perfect camera lens protection, but the camera won't activate automatically by opening the cover, as it does on the k750/w800. That's because the w810 hasn't got the camera switch to activate the camera which is located on the phone mainboard, so you will have to activate the camera using the old way: from the main menu, or holding the shutter button pressed down for 2 seconds.

That is really i nice idea and you can find for about $15 a complete case on Ebay.
The annoying thing about lenses is that you have always somebody to strait insert the fingers in the lenses when taking you phone or digital camera, people just don't understand, if you are careful somebody is not.
When i want, I search. When I search, I find. |

@sevemas - I agree, it is always happening to me too. People always put their fingers on my camera lens.

it's but natural, lens tends to wear out, get scratched etc... so a flap thing is must, if it is possible...

hmm so you buy a casing of another mobile and then place it on the new W810i that you bough just to protect the lens. Who the hell is designing the cellfones at SE? |

It's called maximizing profits!
In layman's term it means seeing which parts can be replaced with cheaper parts to reduce costs, yet the retail price will remain the same (or similar to its previous model). This way they can sell the same phone at the same price and get a higher profit. Apple is doing this for years >:-> |
