on my previouse k500 and all SE phone i've used,i could write sms etc. faster using volume keys,as you know : hitting 4(for example) types G,holding upper side key and hitting 4,types H...and holding lower side key and hitting 4,types I.....it is really handy for a fast SMS writing, but this simply doesn't work on my k800........
is it a glitch or it doesn't work at all on k800????

I think we all know how to enable T9, but that doesn't enable the feature described by decay_zeit, which my W880 also no longer has

and if you go to settings->general->language->writing language: select the desired languages, would it solve decay's problem?

I actually tried all these things when the thread started, as I normally do for such questions, but have found nothing that gives the desired functionality

I can only assume SE decided that it was a little used feature

not only w800,but also k500,and also most se phones......

oh my,HOW ON EARTH THIS COULD BE A LITTLE USED FEATURE?????you believe it is little used????
i don't use T9,i mean i can't use T9 cause simply i don't write in english or any supported languages,T9 must be great, feel sorry...anyway,i was addicted to write this way(must say a real fast typer i was)and when i got my k800 months ago i was really disapponted(not with k800,but with SE)and my typing pace terribly decreased ...i won't start contests no more, heheh

another bug related that may be worth to be mentioned, and it is under File Manager list, pressing any numeric key is supposed to lead you to a specific sub-menu,for example pressing 4 SHOULD open Videos, but stupidly phone wants to type G ............this was also working on my k500

Just simply press 4, then move the joystick to the right, press 4 twice then move the joystick to the right once again, then press 4 thrice. you can type GHI that fast.

see.. it's been an old trick actually since the first era of mobile phone. you don't have to click that volume key to begin typing another letter from the same keypad. just simply slide the joystick to the right.

it's working in every phone (SE, Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, Panasonic, etc) BUT LG phones.

thanks but i think your method is as shiny as a sunny day mate......if you had have tried those side keys for typing once you wouldn't have say this for alternate...that way is MUCH MUCH faster, one hand holds the phone and works with side keys(my left hand)and another hand surfs the keypad, really EASY and fast(at least faster than multitaping joystick, unless you're very mistaken that way)

@ ajeetpv
yes it may take days to get used to it,but after that, you'll find this method much easier and faster and more mistakeless

REALLY MISS THIS FEATURE:(:(

It may be faster, but it's not practical since I cannot use my other hand to do LOTS of things that I usually do when typing a message.

ANYWAY, your kind of faster-typing really works on my K800i. You should upgrade you K800i firmware.
