Hi there I was wondering if someone could help shed some light on this situation.

A few weeks ago I dropped my K750i from a clothes dolly (was hanging my cords up to dry) and cracked the screen it works but the upper 3rd has interlaced lines on it.

I ordered a replacement off of E-bay and it came today but seems to be broken too, it's very pale and streaky and in a worse state the my original broken one, but just doesn't have the crack.

I'm wondering if I've installed it wrong, if it's fixable or whether it's truly un-salvageable and send it back.

Thanks in advance.

Does it look cracked when you've installed the phone, i.e. any LCD bleed or any cracks on the internal screen?

I'd send it back - was it a genuine screen? I'd steer clear of the non-genuine screens, they're usually inferior quality and don't work as well, if at all as in your case. Don't let that tempting cheap price fool you, plus some Ebayers are rather naughty and put that a screen's genuine when it quite plainly isn't! Have you a link to the auction?

General rule of thumb, if the pictures shows the screen having a sticker with Chinese characters on, it'll be a fake or non-gen one.

It doesn't look cracked, mainly very faint and streaky. here's an image for reference.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

The auction is Here. The seller seems/ed reasonable enough and had a decent enough feedback score, although this is the second duff screen, the first was incompatable with my K750i only showed white.

I think i will send it back, I was just wondering whether I was missing some sort of obvious trick to correct the problem.

p.s And since i'm here I was wondering if i could as you a very newbie-ish question? Is any way to update the k750i's firmware from a mac?

Hmmm, that's a respectable seller, and I've used them in the past, in fact I think I've had K750i screens of him before!

Wonder if it's a rogue batch he's had? Definately worth contacting the seller over this. btw there's no sign of any moisture or otherwise damage on the phone's mainboard, just to rule that out?

Can't help with the mac question I'm afraid, don't have one!

Nope, no moisture. I've lost far to many phones to stupid accidents involving water so I'm being extra careful about this one. Plus iIm still using my original broken one (since i can still see that majority of the screen with it) without any problems, apart from the obvious one of course

I think I'll send it back and go for 3rd time lucky, if it doesn't work then I'll just see if I can get my £16.99 refunded.

Thanks for your help.

NB. i'll go bug someone else for the firmware question

It seems you have to tune the new LCD's contrast. I don't quite remember, but isn't it a trim potentiometer on the back for the flex cable? Try that one.

By the way, of course non-original LCDs aren't as good as originals. The ones who makes copies don't have access to the same production technology and materials as the original makers of the LCDs.

You're right Boba. There was a change due to some problem. Or supply constraint on the original. Perhaps also an upgrade on display internal spec and cost down. Could be many reasons.
