Just 56 per cent of Canadians have a mobile phone, compared with an average of about 90 per cent in the rest of the developed world. The discrepancy leaves the country at a competitive disadvantage when it comes to using a basic productivity tool that has become the world's most common communications device.

The average mobile phone bill is one-third more in Canada than in the United States, and although the price gap is closing, it continues to hinder the adoption of wireless communications in this country.

I'm not sure about that - guess it's just not "productive" for the mobile companies! In Ireland about 1000pc have a phone, about 40pc can't use it, the usual 89.9pc have nothing to say anyway and 95pc lie while on the phone... I'm sure whoever needs a phone in Canada has got one. Schools, e.g., are also always warned by productivity "experts" to get the latest computers... While teachers are poorly qualified to teach IT, schools lack funds to maintain them, and roofs collapse cause we had to save for vista... Meanwhile university applicants lack fundamental reading skills, can't do maths in their head, and put "techno" and "music" in the same clause... No reason to hide behind the maple leaf!!! (just hope they have fewer ipotts as well!)

There are lots of people who think there are too many mobile phones around at the minute anyway.

May be they should go and live in Canadia. For some peace and quiet.

I have often thought of moving to Canadia.

on a complete contrast, ive seen someone down the pub in london with a blackberry and 4 other phones. i was tempted to ask why he has so many, but whatever the reason, that is too many phones to carry around at once!

bet a canadian going to london would have a shock when they see 6+ mobile shops in the space of a hundred yards of Oxford Street!

My friend moved there about a year ago. She still uses mobiles etc and says that they have some very good deals, especially on data lol. She also said that many if not all her friends have phones, so it seems it is may be the older generation without mobiles?
