welcome back!

If you haven't used a BlackBerry for personal & daily use for as long as I have - it's possible that there some surprising & exciting changes to be found and enjoyed to elation. What model are you on?

I just got a new PC a few days ago and setup Win7 Enterprise on it and trying to install Super; but it doesn't work for Win7.

Are there any FREE and quality to use Video conversion applications - preferrably with a simpler interface than Super - that I can use on Win7? Something that allows conversion of the popular torrent movies to H.264/MP4 - you know the usual suspects: AVI/.MOV/Xvid/vidx. Please & thanks.

Heyy (: I'm not exactly new around here, but haven't been on here for months!

Also sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place but you guys seem to know your stuff and it should be only one question I have .

Heres my story; I've used SE's since I had my k700 a few years back, every one of them I've run to the ground before finally putting them in a drawer in my room and moving onto the next model, however times change! Basically to cut a long story short my girlfriends mum ended up buying me a phone during a few months of unemployment, a W302, but it freezes, texts any longer than 4 or 5 messages just trying to type one letter will take a second or two, and when your'e trying to be quick its VERY annoying! Internet is horrible, really eugh, and before that phone I would have considered myself a medium user (Well light compared too some of you ). I just really want to get back into this whole phone thing I used to have with my sony ericssons, people used to mod camera drivers, create awesome themes ad all kinds of things, but I've got right out of the way of it, and I understand a BB would be different but...

All bringing me to my main point of getting a blackberry. I love the complexity of them, my brother recently got the 8520? I love their internet browsing, the push email, the qwerty keyboard, everything, so I've decided to get one as my next phone, hopefully on a contract.

However still being of the younger age, although free to do as I like, I don't like people to come back to me afterwards and say I told you so, and I fear this is going to happen with my next decision between the 8520 or the bold 9700. Basically parents/gf/other people think it wise for me to spend just 25 a month on an 8520 for 2 years, rather than 45 a month again for 2 years for a bold 9700; and it kind of makes me want to justify the price too. Both are the same contract, same network (O2-UK), I need unlimited texts and the BB subscription thingy, and I need to be on O2 too, so its between those two for a BB.

FInally I reeeeally don't want an iPhone, I doo want a BB; so ultimately can a double the price deal justify the difference between a BB8520 and a BB9700?? I have tried both, and the 9700 feels amazing, the 8520s nice, but just not quite there...

Thanks guys! And sorry if this is in the wrong place etc, I haven't been round here, or on a forum for a while so feel free to delete etc

This is possibly the best place because you're considering a BlackBerry. Some thoughts came to mind reading your post, but I'll specifically focus on the above.

You're monthly fees. I take it you're working now and can stick with this job (aside from current economic slow growth, personal comfort etc), before moving onto a new one - I've been there a few times as a contractor and its a pain.

Cost will be your ultimate consideration! I'm not sure why both the 8520/9700 is on teh same network, plan, why the 9700 would cost you 20 GBP/mth more than the 8520?? Comparing the two you need to ask yourself what you can deal with ....

* No GPS on the 8520, WiFi only
* No Camera LED flash on 8520.
* 8520 doesn't have the HVGA resolution (which is like night & day vs SE feature phones)
* 9700 Best battery life, talk/music/video/internet/wifi of any BB ever sold: 1500mAh.
* 9700 has LED Flash for Camera or Video recording (HVGA res @ 30fps, btw).
* 9700 seems to just look that much better, slow with regards to case choices/accessories but will thrive shortly.

But both are modern BlackBerry's so you're not going to miss out on much. Just remember that to fully enjoy a BB you'll need a BB data plan with your provider (without it you cannot even use MMS ).

Texting will take some 3 day adjustment cause you have a full qwerty, but you'll realize conversing in proper sentences will be normal vs the hit me bck 2mrw junk. The REAL power of BlackBerry's is AutoText; completely different to custom dictionary's used in every other phone/platform!!

Themes are getting really good now - not as great as on SE phones but VERY close (no sounds for actions/animations/animated gifs).

PS: crashes can be easily solved and avoided for the most part (BB's are VERY stable!) - and if you have experience coding J2ME apps then with development software and some re-learning you can be a proficient coder and augment your income; maybe getting that future mother in law a nice purse as a "thank you" for helping your out before.

Good luck on your choice (if you can wait, save for the Bold 9700).

WOW! That covered just about... everything! Seriously huge thanks Prom1, a lot to consider there! It really does sound like the 9700 is the BB for me however! I feel bad, I have no questions at all , but i shall report back here as to my decision hopefully; as soon as possible!

But once again, thank you!

Sorry it was a long post. Hopefully it was helpful.

The 8520 is a good phone but with no GPS (which you'll use at some point) its not really worth it; its a budget BB model great for paygo BB users.

I love this Bold 9700 so much, I ordered & received a secondary battery & charging pod as a bundle. I plan a long 2/3wk road trip this summer - and having a fully charged battery ready to go will be pure bliss. Also I'm buying another 9700 on contract in a few mths.

PS: Are they any 9520/9550 users in the group; Berry - I think has one but not sure if he's used his yet.

Cheers.

Guess what, Bolt Browser by bitstream is now on AppWorld!
Free, webkit like browser that is fast and very accurate. Ability to load fonts (not sure where to find them yet), and built in pw manager as well. renders sites very well, and there is a plugin that can allow this to be the native browser or optional to open when clicking on links from MMS/email/BBM.

check it out.

Has anybody tried using the SE MW600 HiFi Wireless Headset (with HPM-78 it includes) with their BlackBerry?

I'm considering these because the Premium Stereo (wired) Headset for the BlackBerry doesn't have incoming calls played the headset.

Read first post by Raptor here ... VERY carefully.
http://www.blackberryforums.c[....]1-5-0-0-411-multilanguage.html

you shouldn't have too much trouble.
PS after installation do NOT forget to delete the vendor.xml file and also do NOT use BBDM to install use javaloader on your PC.

Are you ready ppl?

HUGE RIM announcement on Tuesday ... and if rumors hold true ... we may just fully enjoy wireless PIM sync on BIS (for FREE). But for now its all a rumor - the fact is RIM has an announcement.
