Morning guys and experts,
Have my Orange BB Bold (yeah!) but don't see any BB maps pr any indication that it has GPS. Upgraded to V4.6.214 but nothing found. Sure looking through Crackberry etc, someone said Orange disabled this (wonderful people) but there was a way round it.
Anyone please? Think it was Nanu who posted this somewhere.
Thanks guys
Doug

@Burgaz,
sorry, don't know of any free ones ! Would like some for my Bold too!
@dougproctor,
I am sure you are searching CrackBerry and other sites but I found this at CrackBerry and thought I would post the link.

A member called Branta posted this
Get your GPS location
1. In the device options, click Advanced Options.
2. Click GPS.
3. Press the Menu key.
4. Click Refresh GPS.
The longitude and latitude coordinates for your current location appear.
(In UK you should get something in the range 51N-54N 001E-004W depending where you are)
If this works the GPS receiver is enabled and can see enough satellites. If Orange has simply blocked data service to provide maps you should be able to work around this with third party apps like Google. Take a look at the GPS message board here on CB for more advice.
There are other posts about service books further down in the thread that seem to indicate success.
Sorry, if this is not helpful!

Thank you. Did that and got 5 satellites indoors. That must be why when I downloaded Google Mobile, my location was to within 5 metres! On my 8320, it put me in the sea just off the Isle of Wight!! Bit scary!
Thank you again, love this Bold!
Regards
Doug

Hi!
you are welcome!
I have just been for a drive as a passenger and could try, Vodafone Sat Nav, Maps and Google Maps.
Vodafone's GPS refreshed the maps nicely and gave good instructions for my journey.
Google Maps updated very slowly and I could not see where I was in reality. We were only driving at 30 mph ! Google Maps has placed me in the River Humber in the past!
I could not use Maps very well at all and could not find the settings to refresh the map as we were driving. Must be there somewhere in the menu's but I could not find it.
@dougproctor Could you sort out the lack of maps on your Orange Bold? I guess Orange just want you to pay for their offering.

I managed to work around Orange blocking maps, but this work around is no longer necessary as Orange no longer block maps or WLM, Doug you will simply need to download the BlackBerry® maps app to the Bold!

Hi mates. Have Google Mobile maps as heard that BB maps not so good and yes, GPS is there. I was expecting it to be under Manage Connections or something, rather than Options, Advanced Options.
Really love this phone though.

BB Maps is quite good - for the average user, usually picking the quickest route to your destination. Good thing is its integrated into platform (J2ME, CLDC based OS is a platform). Meaning you save your trip, email it, send it over MMS to another BB user and it'll auto open in their BBMaps should they have it installed. Even sending over BBMessenger is great for those from say overseas or another country (USA > UK) whom have never visited your native land before for a meeting or a latté. Don't knock something until A) you try it, and B) you understand more than its face value features. You wouldn't judge a potential bonafide just on face value features would you?
Personally though I prefer my S60 devices - and yes I know all about BB's and the OS along with corporately supporting them on both Exchange & Domino servers now.
btw, nice photo of the Storm & Bold. Now you need the landscape deskstand for the Storm!

I doubt the HTC Touch HD would fit in the Storm's desk top stand!

hi JK!!
My first time to be called a bastard after so long at esato !
Those pictures are not so good having been resized. Lanyard is nice though!
No stand with the HD! It would look extra cool with a nice stand
Are you still using your BB Pearl ?
