I have a K800i, and a 1GB M2 card. I've successfully transferred MP3 files onto it, and deleted files when I no longer want them on there. Now though, theres only apparently 21MB of memory left and i can't understand why. There are fewer tracks stored on the card than there were, and I've even deleted some large podcast files that are 30-40MB, so I'd expect to see that capacity freed up, but no.

I've deleted files through the phone and through the computer in the past - where has all the missing memory gone to? Is there a 'safe' way to delete files that will avoid this problem? I've also restarted the phone, taken the card out and put it back in again etc. All to no avail - it looks as though the 1GB card has effectively become a 250MB card, as thats about the size of all the MP3s that I can see stored on it.

I've now got a 2GB card but am frightened to delete any files from it in case that memory just disappears with the files.

Can anyone help?

Try reformatting the card then re-transferring your files, see if that helps.

Did the mem card come with the phone or did you buy it separately? There are some fake memory sticks out there, especially ones bought from Hong Kong, could be you have a fake card?

i bought the card seperately and it did originally seem to have 1GB capacity on it - its only when ive started deleting files that it seems to be swallowing capacity.

How do i reformat the card?

You should be able to do it in the phone, in my K800i you go to File Manager, hit the 'more' button, then 'memory status', select the memory stick, press 'more' then 'format M.S.'.

Not sure if it's the same in the W950i, should be similar I would have thought!

I had a similar problem when using my iMac with a card reader and the SD card from my DAB radio: I thought I was deleting files by dragging them to Trash but found, with the card fitted back in the radio, that the free space had not increased.
To properly delete the files you need to drag them to Trash and then Empty Trash (whilst the card is still in the reader).
