Both UK operators, one2one and ORANGE PCS have delayed the launch of the T68 on their networks! There are a number of possible reasons for this.

These networks purchase in mass quanitity direct from the manufacturer and distribute the phone through dealer, distributional and retail chanels. This allows the network to make profits when distributing the phones and perhaps tailor specify the fucntions.

To make this process viable, the manufacturer requires to provide for a healthy steady supply of the phone. If they are producing small quanitities, the network will have to pay more for the units (excess demand) The network will not decide to distribute the phone - It will wait until the manufacturer is able to produce larger supplies.

Low supplies of phone is not a problem a network wants as it means unhappy customers and dealers. It is also not in a position to bargain with the manufacturer as excess demand prevails.

The fact that the current T68 (R2A) is unfinished in terms of its intended functionality, the networks see this as a costly problem. Customers would call up CS and other parties for upgrades to MMS! Other costs will also arise.

Incidently, the T39 orange was delayed from launch as orange required the full version of the phone!

The networks will also try and sense market demand for models by publicising the phone to dealers and consumers so that they can establish an approximate demand fucntion. This way they can set an appropriate retail price and purchase quanity.

I havent sourced the information above, i have simply thought about it logically! Please critcise, appraise or add any details mentiones!

Thanks
