Using the settings suggested in quite a few posts, I had no problem with GMail POP3 forwarding to the P990 email client. However, after a master reset a few days ago, I cannot download email. Instead the message below appears.

Could not create secure logon string. Mailbox server may not support secure logon.

The settings are identical to those updated prior to the master reset. I've tried looking up GMail help, fiddling around with the GMail settings on the web, etc, but no solution could be found.

Any help with troubleshooting will be appreciated.

after all that fiddling can I suggest initially just deleting the account on the p990 and following these instructions to set it up again

that way we'll have a known starting position

let us know if there is still a problem

It works! Excuse me while I kick myself.

Here's what I did wrong -

In the Advanced tab I had checked 'Secure password authentication' and 'Use MIME encoding'.
