just sit back and wait to be selected for millions of pounds!!!

i got this email this morning.. i know people get these all the time, i havent had one for a while (thought they had stopped sending them lol) obviously someone somewhere is very bored and needs to occupy their time with soemthing...

email:

'My Dear
I am Mrs merre usman, the manager of bill and exchange at the foreign remittance department Bank Of Africa.

In my department we discoveredan abandoned sum of US$14.5M (fourteen million five hundred thousand US dollars) in an account that belongs to one of our foreign customer who died along with his family in the 2002 in a plane crash.

Since we got information about his death, we have been expecting his next of kin to come over and claim his money because we cannot release it unless some body applies for it as next of kin or relation to the deceased as indicated in our banking guide lines and laws but unfortunately we learnt that all his supposed next of kin or relation died alongside with him at the plane crash leaving nobody behind for the claim.

It is therefore upon this discovery that I now decided to make this business proposal to you and release the money to you as the next of kin or relation to the deceased for safety and subsequent disbursement since nobody is coming for it and we don't want this money to go into the bank treasury as unclaimed bill.

The banking law and guidelines here stipulates that if such money remained unclaimed after four years, the money will be transferred into the bank treasury as unclaimed fund.

The request of foreigner as next of kin in this business is occasioned by the fact that the customer was a foreigner and a Burkina cannot stand as next of kin to a foreigner.

I agree that 45% of this money will be for you as respect to the provision of a foreign account , 5% will be set aside for expenses incurred during the business and 50% be for me.

Thereafter, I will visit your country for disbursement according to the percentage indicated. Therefore, to enable the immediate transfer of this fund to you as arranged, you must apply first to the bank as relation or next of kin of the deceased indicating your bank name, your bank account number, your private telephone and fax number for easy and effective communication and location where the money will be transfer.

Upon receipt of your reply, I will send to you by fax or email the text of the application. I will not fail to bring to your notice that this transaction is hitch-free and that you should not entertain any atom of fear as all required arrangements have been made for the transfer.

You should contact me immediately as soon as you receive this mail,Trusting to hear from you immediately.

Yours faithfully.
Mrs merre usman, '

I actually got a very convincing one those yesterday, scary thing is it wasn't from Nigeria or Africa but based in belgium.

It gave me all the usual nonsense of "Congratulations you have Won the Jackpot of £100,00000"

needless to say i didn't bother to read the rest and trashed it!

sad thing is some people still fall for these cons!

How do they harm people with such a scam? All you give'em is your bank account number?

edit. Well, i just realized that they probably do this to gather e-mails, that's enough for them to sell over to people..

they try to clear ur account out with the details u give them...

Me an a collegue set up a bank account an put £5 in there after we recieved one of these emails jus to see what happens!!!

Well we emailed them back saying we would love to help them out as we are very helpful ppl and the money woudl certainly help!!! lol.

We recieved a reply asking us to fill a form online, they said it was a secure site but it wasnt! (we did this from a brand new laptop with NO info on it at all! it was a BNIB laptop)

After sending the details from this site nothin happened for bout a month... bank account wasnt touched and then we recieved another email stating that the person had the cash in bankers drafts and would be coming over to the UK in 2 weeks time. BUT!, this is the best part!, they had no money to buy tickets to get across and wanted us to transfer money into a western union account so they could buy tickets to come across on a plane! lol.

At that point we stopped an emails stopped shortly after!

Its not the bank account details or the personal details its the little costs they throw in afterwards!!! plus the numerous trojans, worms and keyloggers they installed on the laptop whilst we filled the online form out! thats when they get the real juicy info that they then sell onto other gangs etc etc!

I see. Best to stay away from them, and never set out a feedback to such e-mails.
